Irish actor and comedian Chris O’Dowd has established himself as a successful on-screen personality who has made significant achievements in both TV and film through his remarkable roles. Chris O’Dowd’s Biography

He was born on October 9, 1979, to his parents; Sean, his father, and Denise, his mother in County Roscommon, Ireland. His mother is a psychotherapist who counsels people from all walks of life while his father is a visual artist. Chris has four older siblings of the same parents. As a child, he loved sports a lot and was part of his school’s Gaelic Football team. O’Dowd had his tertiary education at the University College Dublin where he majored in Politics and Sociology.

Chris O’Dowd did not wait to finish his degree before he proceeded to the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art to attend to his hidden acting desires. Inasmuch as he would go on to be a great actor, it was until he was between 18 and 19 that he decided to toe the path of acting. The journey for him began when he accidentally found himself in a drama group in college and then realized that it was what he wanted for himself.

His first movie role came in 2003 when he appeared in the movie Conspiracy of Silence and then in the TV series, The Clinic which ran from 2003 to 2005. In 2004, he appeared in Vera Drake and then Festival which would go on to land him a BAFTA Scotland Award for Best Actor in a Scottish Film in 2005. While he went on to appear in many more productions, he also worked as a writer, director, and executive producer.

To his name, the actor has over 30 movies, TV series, and a stage show. For all these, he has many nominations and a few awards to boast of, including the AACTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his role in The Sapphires (2012) and IFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Bridesmaids (2011).

Chris O’Dowd was born and raised in a very strong Roman Catholic family, although he would not only go on to be a lifelong atheist but also come up with his own philosophy against the existence of a god. His family is also artistic; apart from his father who is a visual artist, two of his siblings also went to art school. He has a brother, John O’Dowd, who is an Irish politician.

 

The actor is married to Scottish television presenter, writer, and director, Dawn O’Porter. The very funny and interesting couple first met in 2009 at the birthday party of Dawn and there, they were introduced by Nick Frost who was their mutual friend.

Before then, the actor was turned down by the woman who later became his wife three times when he sent a friend request to her on Facebook. But when she organized her birthday party, she invited him over, fearing that no one was going to attend. That was how love began for the two.

Speaking about how they started dating, Dawn revealed that she was very lucky to have met him when she did because she might have hit rock bottom if not for him. In 2011, Dawn and Chris announce their engagement and in 2012, they tied the knot in a three-day event. After the marriage, the director who was born Dawn Porter legally changed her name to Dawn O’Porter.

The union has thus far been blessed with two children. Dawn gave birth to the couple’s first child Art O’Porter in February 2015 and in 2017, she announced that she was about to turn 38 and that she was pregnant with her second child who was later born Valentine O’Porter in July 2017.

Height

A man with good looks, Chris has also a good height and an athletic build. That said, he has a massive height of 6 feet 3 inches (1.91 m) and though his weight is not available, he does keep fit and appears well in shape.
