The fame of the Back to the Future franchise has a lot to do with the brilliance of and Christopher Lloyd who played the roles of Marty McFly and Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown respectively. Interestingly, Lloyd turned down the role and only played it upon the insistence of his wife and on reading the script.

The 1985 American film (Back to the Future) was a science fiction made on a $19 million budget. The movie was a huge success grossing about $389.1 million in Box office. The huge success and acceptance led to a making of a sequel, Back to the Future II in 1987. This also gained wide recognition, though not as much as the original movie. Back to the Future III was released the following year.

This trilogy led to a franchise which includes animated television series, a musical presentation, and a number of video games, soundtracks, theme park attractions, a comic book series, and also some published books. Christopher Lloyd Bio

Christopher was born to a lawyer named Samuel R. Lloyd Jr. and a singer named Ruth Lapham. His mother was the sister of Roger Lapham, San Francisco’s 32nd mayor, and the daughter of Lewis Henry Lapham, a successful American entrepreneur and co-founder of Texaco Oil Company. She was born in 1896 and died at age 88.

Christopher Lloyd’s date of birth is recorded as the 22nd of October 1938. The Stamford, Connecticut born dude was raised alongside his six elder siblings (four girls and two boys ) in New Canaan, Connecticut. One of his brothers, Samuel Llyod (III), was also an actor in the mid-20th century. Samuel passed away at age 91 in 2017. His son, (Christopher’s nephew) Samuel Lloyd IV, is also an actor.

Christopher had a passion for acting and served as an intern in summer theaters located in Hyannis, Massachusetts and Mount Kisco, New York. He enrolled in some acting classes at 19 and made his theatre debut in 1961 on a New York stage in a production of And They Put Handcuffs on the Flowers. His Broadway debut was Red, White and Maddox in 1969. He went on to perform several roles off-Broadway such as in A Midsummer Nights Dream, The Seagull, In the Boom Boom Room, King Lear and Happy End amongst several others.

The 1975 comedy-drama movie, One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest was his debut movie appearance. He won the award of Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series from Primetime Emmy Awards twice for his portrayal of Reverend Jim Ignatowski in Taxi, a situational comedy movie. He is also popularly known as Doc Brown, a character he portrayed in the Back to the Future trilogy (and Franchise). Christopher’s trademark in the movie industry is the playing of eccentric characters.

Lloyds recent works include Going in Style (2017), Muse (2017), The Sound (2017), Boundaries (2018), Welcome to Pine Grove (2018), 12 Monkeys (2017- 2018), and Roseanne (2018). In his over 57 years of acting career, he has bagged a number of awards and has been nominated for several others. These include the Obie Award, Drama Desk Award, Independent Spirit Awards, Daytime Emmy Awards, British Independent Film Awards, Golden Raspberry Awards, and the National Academy of Video Game Trade Reviewers Award for different categories and in different years.

Christopher Lloyd’s Spouse

The handsome 6 foot 11 inches actor got married on the 6th of June 1959 to Catharine Dallas Dixon Boyd but they got divorced after 12 years (in 1971). Kay Tornborg took on the wife title next in 1974 and held on to it for 13 years till their divorce in 1987. His marriage to his third wife, Carol Ann Vanek was short-lived lasting only for 3 years (1988-1991).

For another 13 years, Christopher Lloyd stayed married to Jane Walker Wood, a screenwriter (1992-2005). He had previously bought a house with Jane in Montecito, California so he listed it upon their divorce. But then, it unfortunately got razed in the 2008 November Tea Fire. His last wife till date (2018) is a real estate broker named Lisa Loiacono whom he married in 2016 November.

Christopher is alive and healthy. He celebrated his 80th birthday quite recently, on the 22nd of October 2018. All news of his death has turned out to be a hoax.

Interestingly, his birthday October 22nd correlates with the Back to the Future Day first celebrated in 2015.
