The New York Giants jersey No. 12 player was born on the 10th day of October 1992, in Dayton, Ohio, in the United States, to Tonya Dunson (mother) and Colby Latimer (father), who named him Cody Derek Latimer after his birth.

The only child of his parents, Latimer inherited his athletic genes from his father who was a popular footballer at Bowling Green State University in the 80s. While growing up, his father, Colby, was not part of his life rather the NFL player was raised single-handedly by his mother, who was divorced from her husband when Cody was a toddler.

Latimer’s father only found his way back to his life after he (Colby) was diagnosed with colon cancer. He finally lost his battle with cancer in 2005, leaving behind Cody, his mother, and other family members to mourn him.

Born to a father who was good at both football and basketball, his father thought Cody would pursue a career at the National Basketball Association (NBA) but his mother kept encouraging him to play football. In the long run, Latimer’s love and passion for the oval leather ball overshadowed his dad’s wishes. Cody Derek Lamiter started playing organized football at Jefferson Township High School, Dayton, Ohio, where he excelled among his contemporaries, hauling in six touchdowns and 42 catches for 722 yards. He also gained 372 rushing yards, 27 carries in just 8 games and six touchdowns as a senior, leading to his selection to the first team all-conference.
