Colby Rasmus’ Biography

Colby Rasmus is an American professional baseball player who plays as an outfielder for Baltimore Orioles. The center fielder is known to bat on his left and throw with his left. There are a vast number of professional baseball players in the Major League Baseball, but what stands out about Colby Rasmus is his hard work, dedication and the quality of play he executes on the pitch, no wonder he is so much loved not only in America but also in the diaspora.

Rasmus is a native of Columbus which lies in Georgia, in the United States. He was born on August 11, 1986, to ex-baseball player Tony Rasmus and wife Robin Rasmus. Colby attended Russell county high school in Alabama prior to his graduation in 2005. He played for his high school baseball team. As a senior at Russell county high, he played 39 games, made 24 home runs, batted an average of .484, made 66 RBIs and scored 64 runs. His 24 home runs hold the state record for second all-time home runs in a season by a high school player. Colby led his high school baseball team to a national championship in 2005, finishing number one in National high school baseball coaches association poll as well as the U.S. Today super 25 baseball rankings.

In the 2005 Major League Baseball June amateur draft, Colby Rasmus was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals as the 28th person to be picked in the first round.

In 2006, he kicked off his minor league career with Swing of the Quad Cities and ended the season playing for Palm Beach Cardinals. In the same year, he won August player of the month award. From Palm Beach Cardinals, Colby switched to Spring field.

In 2008, he was picked as part of the baseball team to represent the United States national baseball team in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He, however, couldn’t compete due to an injury.

In 2009, Baseball America ranked him number 3 on their list of Top 100 prospects in MLB which made his MLB debut as the 17,091st debutant in major league baseball’s history. He made his major leagues debut while playing for St. Louis Cardinals against Pittsburgh on April 7, 2009.

Since making his MLB major league debut for St. Louis Cardinals, he has gone on to play for fellow MLB clubs like Toronto Blue Jays, where he spent his longest period in a single team, for four seasons. He left the Blue Jays and joined Houston Astros as a free agent. After spending close to two years at Houston Astros, he signed a one-year deal in 2017 for Tampa Bay Rays, but his time there lasted for only a couple of months, due to his none ending injury worries. As a result of his hip injury reoccurring more often, Colby decided to take a break from baseball in the early summer of 2017.

So many weren’t particularly optimistic of Colby’s return to playing baseball, but on February 21, 2018, Colby Rasmus made his comeback to professional baseball when he signed for the Baltimore Orioles.
