Cooper Cronk Biography

The Australian professional rugby league footballer was born Cooper Patrick Cronk on 5th December 1983 in Brisbane, Australia.

He was raised by his parents, Rick Cronk and Wendy Cronk alongside his siblings. The elder Cronk was also a rugby player who played in the Bondi United rugby league in the 1960s and the 1970s. He also played for the Roosters in junior teams. There are some reports that state that Cooper’s paternal grandparents also excelled in some level of athletics.

Since he was a child, he was drawn into the sports thanks to his father. For his education, he went to St. Laurence’s College, South Brisbane where he was a part of the school’s rugby union.

After his graduation, he played for Queensland and Australian Schoolboys teams in the rugby league and then he got selected by the Norths Devils team to play in the Queensland Cup. It was there that he made a name for himself after he recorded 37 tries for the team.

In 2004, he made his debut for the Melbourne Storms with which he played until 2017. With the Storms, he was named the Dally M Halfback of the Year 2006. He won the award again in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2016. More so, he was also named the Dally M Player of the Year in 2013 and 2016.

Towards the end of the 2017 NRL season, the rugby star announced that he was leaving the team and was moving to Sydney. According to him, the reason behind his decision was not football-related but rather, based on family reasons.

In 2018, he joined the Sydney Roosters on a two-year deal. In his first season, he played all 26 games for the team including the grand final in which he was forced to play with a broken scapula. Despite the injury, he still managed to help his new club beat his old club, the Melbourne Storm.

It was, however, not for no reason that Cronk was leaving as he wanted to go there and meet his fiancee Tara Rushton. To all those wondering why he would make such a move at the height of his career, Cronk simply said there was more to life than football.

Before he made the move, Cronk and Tara who works as a Fox Sports presenter had dated for a number of years. Their relationship was mainly long-distant but that didn’t stop them from getting engaged earlier in 2017 before he decided to move so as to afford his then-fiancee the opportunity to further her career, something he said she had worked very hard for.

The couple got married in December 2017 on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. The event was graced by their families and close friends. In July 2018, the couple welcomed its first child together. The name of the son is given as Lennox Ryder Cronk.
