Criss Angel was born Christopher Nicholas Sarantakos on December 19, 1967, in Hempstead, New York City, New York. He, however, grew up in Elmont and when he was in fourth grade, his family moved to East Meadow, still in New York. His father’s name was John Sarantakos and he was a restaurateur; his mother’s name is Dimitra Sarantakos. If you are good with languages, you would have deduced by now that Criss Angel is of Greek descent (from his name). The magician has two siblings – Costa and J.D. Sarantakos.
He attended East Meadow High School but did not proceed to college as he had made up his mind to pursue a career in performing magic. However, in the quest to build a career in magic, he tried to educate himself by going to public libraries frequently where he studied magic, music, mysticism, and even martial arts.
His interest in the dark arts began while he was seven years old, and five years on, when he was twelve, Criss would make his first open performance at a show for which he was paid $10. While in high school, he was already known as a magician as he performed his magic tricks at various parks and restaurants around East Meadow. His major inspiration when he was growing up was Harry Houdini, an Hungarian-American stunt performer, and illusionist and he was also mentored by reality TV host Marc Morrone, who was a great help in those early days.

Criss Angel has a show called the Criss Angel Mindfreak which he produces and airs on the A&E Network. The show which began in 2005 was aired for five years (2005 – 2010) and in those five years, it got more hours on air than any other magic show before it had gotten before that time. He is also known for the stage show Criss Angel Believe which he debuted on September 26, 2008, and in 2013, the show was rated “the best selling magic show” in Las Vegas.

On September 7, 2011, Criss Angel and Sandra Gonzalez got engaged in Mexico. Criss proposed to her with a $300,000 diamond ring but the engagement was called off and they went their separate way after four years together. His next marriage was to songwriter and singer, Shaunyl Benson who was half Aussie and half Filipino. They were joined in matrimony in 2014 but soon got divorced just after one year. He then met Belina Peregrin Schüll, a Mexican actress, and singer in 2016 during the filming of one of his programs in Mexico. They started dating in November 2016 and broke up eight months later in July 2017.

Is Criss Angel Dead?
The rumor and speculation about Criss Angel’s death came as a result of an accident that occurred on one of his shows in Las Vegas. Criss was performing live in his “Mindfreak Live!” show on March 10, 2017, at the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada when he passed out on stage. Just 10 minutes into the show, Criss struggled to get out of a straightjacket while hanging upside down but couldn’t and so he passed out. The show was canceled and everyone was shown out of the theater.
Even though he was rushed to the hospital and released almost immediately afterward, speculations continued to spread that he was dead. But Criss Angel is hale and hearty.
