Dana Delany is an American-born film, television and stage actress as well as a voiceover artist. In the late 1980s, she got her breakout role as Colleen McMurphy in the drama series China Beach which earned her multiple accolades including 2 Emmy Awards. In recent times, she has come to be known for her work on the hit comedy series Desperate Housewives as well as the medical drama series Body of Proof.

Her birth was recorded on March 13, 1956, in New York City. She has Irish and English ancestry and was raised in the Roman Catholic faith. She grew up in Stamford, Connecticut where she had much of her early education. However, she completed her senior year of high school at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts. She had her college education at Wesleyan University where she majored in theatre.
After leaving college, Dana Delany found regular acting work on a number of soap operas as well as TV commercials. She also featured in stage productions – both on and off Broadway. Delany ultimately landed her breakthrough role when she was cast as the lead star of the drama series China Beach (1988–91). The talented actress portrayed the lead character Colleen McMurphy throughout the 4-season run of the series and her performance earned her much critical acclaim including 2 Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series and 2 Golden Globe Award nominations.
Following the success of China Beach, Delany continued to get regular acting roles in television, films and the theatre. She remained very busy all through the 1990s and into the 2000s as she appeared in several made-for-TV movies, feature films, as well as Broadway shows. She also performed notable voice roles including the role of Andrea Beaumont in the animated superhero film Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (1993).
