Since the inaugural season of Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) Formula One World Championship in 1950, it has been one of the premier forms of racing around the world. The first season produced its first champion, Italian Giuseppe Farina and has continued to unveil world champions with many racers seeking to attain the Grand Prix feat. Daniel Ricciardo is an Australian racing driver for Red Bull Racing competing in the Formula One and is currently in his eighth season.

The Aussie F1 ace has shown his streak of victories over the years in his career. He won the 2009 British Formula 3 Championships and finished third with his first three Formula One wins. He won in Canada, Hungary, and Belgium being the only non-Mercedes driver to clinch that feat.

After winning the Canada Grand Prix in 2014, Daniel became the fourth Australian driver to win a Formula One Grand Prix. The victory also placed him as the 105th driver to win a round of the FIA Formula One World Championship.

Daniel has said that the ability to enjoy an event will bring one success therein irrespective of what it is. He sure has proven how much he enjoys racing.

Daniel Ricciardo’s Biography

The Australian driver, Daniel Joseph Ricciardo was born on the first day of July 1989 in Perth, Western Australia. He must have gotten his racing knack from his father who competed in various races. He remembers watching his father who took part in various racing series in Australia race in Barbagallo Raceway in Wanneroo, which is close to where he grew up. Those times were his earliest memories of motorsports.

Daniel Ricciardo was born to parents Giuseppe “Joe” and Grace and he has a sister, Michelle Ricciardo. His father was an avid car collector and has cars such as 1973 Ferrari Dino 246GT, 1963 Porsche 911, and Ferrari F40 in his collections.

Early Career

Daniel attended the Newman college, Berth. As a little boy of 9, he joined the Tiger Kart Club (TKC) and started karting, entering many karting events. During his early years, he entered various championships including the Western Australian Formula Ford championship in 2005 where he finished eighth and the national Formula Ford series. A scholarship into the Formula BMW Asian with Eurasia Motorsport saw him competing and finishing first in his debut season and also achieving a pole position at Zhuhai.

He further competed in the Drivers’ Championship and the British championship with Formula BMW cars. In 2007, he entered the European and Italian championships in the Formula Renault category with RP Motorsport. Though he earned 196 points in the Italian series, he failed to earn a point in the European races.

However, in the following year, Daniel took his first European title in the Western European Cup and finished second in the Eurocup. Other categories he entered include Formula Three (2008-2009), Formula Renault 3.5 series where he was signed by Tech 1 for the 2010 season. In Formula 3, he won the British Formula 3 title with a 64-point lead over Dutch driver, Renger van der Zande. The victory made him the first Australian driver to win the title since 1989 after David Brabham.

In addition, he raced for Czech Republic team, ISR Racing in 2011 before he was called up for his HRT.

Formula One

Racing in Formula One has been the Australian driver’s dream. When he finally got to stand on a Formula One starting grid, he described it as a dream come true. Daniel became a Formula 1 racing driver after he tested for the Red Bull Racing in 2009, though he was a test and reserve driver between 2010 and 2011. Following his test driving, he raced for Hispania Racing from June 2011 to the rest of the races for the season but one, the Indian Grand Prix.

He further raced for Toro Rosso from 2012 to 2013. In the 2014 season, he replaced his fellow countryman, Mark Webber who retired from the sports in 2013, at the Infiniti Red Bull Racing.

The 2014 season was quite a good one for the race driver although he was disqualified in the first season of the Australian Grand Prix. The disqualification denied him the chance of clinching the feat of being the first Australian to have made the podium at the Australian Grand Prix since its inception in the World Championship.

 

He won the Canadian Grand Prix, the Hungarian Grand Prix ahead of and n and scored the third victory in Belgium as a non-Mercedes driver. He won the Laureus World Sports Award for Breakthrough of the Year in April 2015 for his performances in the 2014 season.

He has remained contracted to Red Bulls through the seasons. For the 2018 season, he claimed 2 fastest laps in Australia and China and now lies 4th in the World Drivers’ Championship with 17 points behind the first, his ex-teammate, .
