In 1960, the Dallas Cowboys came in as an expansion team into the National Football League and have been to the Super Bowl eight times winning five of them. Jerry Jones, the Owner, president and General Manager of the team has made so many calls to drafted players over the years. On a special day in 2016, Darius Jackson got that special call from Jerry Jones as the Cowboys sixth pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. He was surrounded by his family and friends and the feeling is one Darius hasn’t forgotten yet. Currently one of the team’s running backs, he wears the number 44 jersey.

Darius Jackson Bio

This American footballer was born on the 1st of December and in the year 1993. Jackson lived with his family in Garland, Texas until his seventh grade when they relocated to Sparta. He had his high school education at the Sparta High School in Sparta, Illinois. At that time, he enjoyed baseball and football and was a part of the football team. Darius was a two-way player as a senior – he played running back, quarterback and safety, registering as much as 1,100 rushing yards. On both sides of the ball, Darius received All-conference honors.

When he completed his high school education, he went on to attend the Eastern Michigan University having obtained a scholarship. With little and insignificant accomplishment in his freshman year, Darius made a start and appeared in 6 other games as a sophomore, recording 201 rushing yards. As a junior, he posted 295 rushing yards in the 12 games he played. The following year, he got promoted to being a full-time starter and had 1,078 rushing yards. The school record has it that he equally pulled-off 2 receiving touchdowns, 14 rushing touchdowns (16 in total) and 21 receptions for 201 yards.

Darius Jackson’s professional career began in 2016 after the magical phone call from the Owner of the Dallas Cowboys. He got selected in the sixth round of the NFL draft (in 2016). The star was the 216th overall and made the 53-man roster of the Dallas Cowboys. As a child, Darius had a dream of being a part of the Dallas Cowboys, the home team of Garland, a Dallas suburb, in which he grew up. As such, being signed up by the Cowboys was definitely a dream come true for him, he was taken in as ’s back up. His drafting wasn’t a surprise for analysts, in fact, it was actually expected as he really was a joy at his pro day. Darius took only 4.35 seconds to make a 40-yard dash and also made a 41-inch vertical jump.

As a rookie, he had a good preseason but after being inactive for 14 games, he got waived on December 13 in a bid to accommodate Darren McFadden who was set to be removed from the Non-Football Injury List. The next day, Cleveland Browns claimed him off the waiver and he was declared inactive for 3 consecutive games. In June 2017, it was reported that he had a very serious knee injury; because of this, he got waived again but got cleared and put on the injured reserve list the following day. Darius Jackson had quite an interesting time with the Browns as he was again waived on the 3rd of May, 2018. As fate would have it, the Dallas Cowboys again called for Darius’ services before the month ran out.

As the 99th season of the National Football League is set to begin on the 6th of September 2018, and as the 32 teams battle for the ultimate Super Bowl championship, we sure hope that Darius Jackson gets to prove to his two-time team that he is definitely worth his mettle. Definitely, a start will be a tremendous victory for this American footballer as a lot of his fans have their fingers crossed waiting to see if he gets the chance he deserves to fulfill his promise and make his late brother proud.

His Family

Darius Jackson’s parents are Sandra and Tyrone Jackson. He had a younger brother named Alex Price who sadly passed away at the age of 19 in 2015. Price died following a two-year struggle with cancer. On his deathbed, Darius promised his brother that he was going to ensure he goes to the league for him. The running back told his late brother that he’d nurture the bond they shared and ensure he lives through him before he passed. Till date, Darius says this has been his greatest driving force and what keeps him going even at times when he felt like giving up.
