Having been around for over 30 years, there are a lot of things about him that many people want to know.

Darius Rucker Biography and Age

It was on May 13, 1966, that he was born as Darius Carlos Rucker in Charleston, South Carolina. Although one can easily assume that he grew up with music because his father was a member of the Gospel band, Rolling Stone, his father had very little influence in his life as he was raised by his mother alongside his five other siblings. In fact, while growing up, he had very little contact with his father whom he saw very little of.

Apart from his mother, one other person that helped in bringing him up was his grandmother since his mother who was a nurse had to work. Still, this did not prevent him from seeing great poverty as a child, sharing a three bedroom flat with his aunties and other children, totalling close to 20.

For his education, Darius Rucker attended the Charleston’s Middleton High School and after he graduated, he moved to the University of South Carolina. It was here that he got to start pushing his musical career even more, even though he had been singing since he was a little kid in his church choir.

The university afforded him the opportunity of meeting people like Mark Bryan, Jim “Soni” Sonefeld, and Dean Felber, and together, they began the rock band, Hootie & the Blowfish. That was in 1986.

The band has gone on to release 5 studio albums. The first, Cracked Rear View, was released in 1994 and it was a massive success, topping the Billboard chart in the US and it recorded a diamond certificate in the US and Canada, while it had a Gold in the UK with Platinum in Australia. Fairweather Johnson which was their next album was released in 1996 and it was likewise very successful. Their next three albums were Musical Chairs (1998), Hootie & the Blowfish (2003), and Looking for Lucky (2005).

The rock band won at the Grammy Awards in 1996 when it scooped the Best New Artist award as well as the Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for Let Her Cry. It also has 2 American Music Awards as well as an MTV Video Music Award.

Hootie & the Blowfish took a break in 2008 and Rucker decided to pursue a solo career as a country musician. His first album this time around was Learn to Live which he released in that same year. After this, he released Charleston, SC 1966 (2010), True Believers (2012), Southern Style and Home for the Holidays (2014), and When Was the Last Time (2016). Surprisingly, the man who had also released an R&B album Back to Then in 2002, was also very successful as a country singer.

Among the awards he won this time around were a Country Music Association Awards for New Artist of the Year (2009) and a Grammys for Best Country Solo Performance (2013). He also walked home with a British Country Music Association Award for International Album of the Year (2015)

Considering that he was born in 1966, guessing his right age is rather easy.

Family: Wife and Kids

Darius Rucker is married to Beth Leonard. The first time the singer saw the woman, he immediately knew she was the one he was going to marry and he made sure he told her on their first date. The two decided to tie the knot in 2000.

Beth Leonard gave birth to the couple’s first child, Daniella Rose in 2001 and in 2005, she gave birth to a son, Jack.

Before getting married to Beth Leonard, Darius Rucker had a daughter, Carolyn Pearl Phillips with his then-girlfriend. Carolyn was born on April 21, 1995.

Net Worth and House

For a man who has almost touched the four walls of the world with his music, it will highly be surprising to expect that he doesn’t have a mouth-watering net worth. His net worth is put at $14 million.

The singer once had a house in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.
