Popularly known as the Gorilla, Darren Till is a mixed martial artist who has become popular in the Ultimate Fighting Championship where he fights in the welterweight division. Before the UFC, Till was also a Muay Thai fighter who slugged it out in the welterweight division. Here is all to know about him.

Darren Till Biography

It was on 24 December 1992 that Darren Till was born in Liverpool, Merseyside. The English martial artist lived almost all his younger life doing what he still does, fighting. By the time he was only 14 years, he was out of school for good to settle down and start fighting. Even before dropping out, he started training in Muay Thai when he was only 12. Having left school, he turned professional when he was just 15.

At the age of 19, instead of taking the path taken by other martial artists by taking part in shows such as the Cage Warriors and BAMMA when he moved to Brazil, Darren instead, before making the move he got into a fight at a party that had him stabbed twice in the back. It was a very serious incident that almost cost him his life, and so as soon as he was okay, his coach sent him to Brazil where he had no knowledge of Portuguese.

In Brazil, he started from the scratch but was able to rise pretty fast such that by the time he got called to the UFC, he was almost fully prepared and knowledgeable on how to triumph over any opponent in the ring. His first UFC fight was against Wendell de Oliveira in 2015 at Goiania, Brazil. In the second round, Darren Hill was able to knock Wendell out. With the victory, Till knew he was going to be a big name in the sports and that served as a motivation for him.

His next fight was with Nicolas Dalby. This would stand as the only fight that so far, he has not won. The good thing though is that he didn’t lose the fight either as it only ended in a draw. UFC Fight Night: Gustafsson vs. Teixeira was his next fight in 2017 against Jasin Ayari which he won by unanimous decision. He went on to defeat Bojan Veličković in his next fight, then Donald Cerrone whom he defeated through a knockout. In 2018, he fought Stephen Thompson and clipped him to size in the fifth round.

Darren Till’s career has been on a winning streak even before he made it into the UFC. His first professional fight was against Luciano Oliveira Ribeiro which he went on to win in 2013. In the same year, he fought seven more times winning each; three through a total knock out, three through knockout, and one through submission. In 2014, he got involved in two more fights winning the first by submission while the second was by unanimous decision. His last fight before the UFC came in 2015 when he fought against Laerte Costa e Silva and defeated him by total knock out.

Girlfriend and Wife

There is something that means the world to every man to the Gorilla, it is strictly his daughter. Even though he is yet to have a wife since he has never been married, Darren Till has a daughter with his girlfriend who gave birth after he moved to Brazil.

Four months after moving to the South American country, he met his girlfriend and together they went on to have a daughter. Wanting to do something different for her birthday, the UFC star decided to have a tattoo of her face on his left arm. According to the martial artist, his girlfriend is next to none other in the world hence he believes that whenever he fights, she also fights with him and whenever he gets beaten she also takes some of the pains.

A lot still remains unknown about his girlfriend and daughter, but from what we have seen and heard him say about them, they are very much at the epicenter of his life just like his fighting career.

There are some sports that require one to have it all when it comes to height and body build. Interestingly enough, Martial arts is not one of such. With that said, it is therefore not surprising to find out that a relatively successful martial artist like Darren Till is neither the tallest man you would find or even the most built.
