David Ferrer is a professional tennis player from Spain. He holds several distinctions and has won several titles in his career that has spanned over a decade. Asides being ranked world’s #33 man in Men’s singles by the ATP, David has won tournaments at almost all levels – including ATP 250, ATP 500 and Masters 1000. In addition to this, he has won the Davis Cup thrice.

The year 2012, saw him win the Paris Masters while in the following year he reached the final of the 2013 French Open without losing even a set, he has reached the semi-finals of the Australian and the US Opens twice, in addition to having reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon twice.

David was first ranked among the top 10 tennis players in 2006 and made a career-high ranking of world No. 3 in 2013. In 2017 he beat Alexandr Dolgopolov to win the Swedish Open, which happened to be his first ATP Tour title since he won the Vienna Open in 2015. Biography

David Ferrer was born as David Ferrer Ern on 2 April 1982 in Xàbia (Eastern Province of Spain) where he lived till the age of thirteen when he moved to Gandia (another city in Eastern Province of Spain).

His father, Jamie Ferrer is said to be an accountant, while his mother, Pilar Ferrer is a teacher at an elementary school. He has one older brother, Javier Ferrer Ern who is a tennis coach and also runs the Ferrer Tenis Academia.

Career

Although Ferrer developed love and passion for tennis in his early teen years, he was said to be so lazy at practising that his coach Javier Piles, locked him in a dark room for several hours and gave him only a piece of bread and little water until he agreed to train hard enough and become a professional tennis player. After Ferrer went professional, Javier Piles remained his coach until he was replaced by Jose Francisco Altur in 2013.

At the age of fifteen, David had to move to Barcelona to be trained at the Catalan Tennis Federation, he also received training at the Juan Carlos Ferrero Academy Villena for almost a year before returning to his birth town – Xàbia. While at the academy, the Spanish Federation chose to rather sponsor Tommy Robredo rather than him, forcing Ferrer on his own prior to turning professional.

David Ferrer became a professional tennis player in the year 2000. That year, he won Poland F1, Spain F3 and finished as a runner-up in Spain’s F1, he ended the year as world no. 419. The following year, he recorded his first career Challenger title. He also reached the semifinals at Manerbio, Spain F15, and F16 respectively.

In 2002, he won his first ATP title after reaching his first ATP final in just his second ATP event in Umag. By the end of 2004, he has moved up to #49 in the World’s Men’s Single ranking, in 2005 he moved up further to # 14 after winning his first ATP titles in Acapulco and Viña del Mar. He also earned a career-high of US$951,772.

Ferrer was part of the Spanish team that won the Davis Cup in 2008, 2009, and 2011. He has also won the Masters tournaments and has been a runner-up six times at the tournament.

He won his 25th career title at the 2015 Kuala Lumpur Open after defeating Feliciano López in an all Spanish final, Thew Spaniard also goes down in history as the first Spaniard to ever win the title in Kuala Lumpur. In 2017 he beat Alexandr Dolgopolov to win the Swedish Open, which became his first ATP Tour title after the 2015 Vienna Open.

After dating for several years, David tied the knots with his longtime girlfriend Marta Tornel in a ceremony that held in Valencia, Spain on 28th November 2015. The couple was introduced by Ferrer’s former coach Javier Piles and his wife.

The Spaniard took to his Instagram to announced the arrival of his first child (son) with wife Tornel. Little Leo arrived in May 2018.
