David So was born Inguk David So on the 30th of March 1987, in Seoul, South Korea. When he was 2 years old, his parents relocated with him to Sacramento, California. In Sacramento, his parents soon started a Black/African American beauty supply store where David began to frequent from the age of 4.

David attended Florin High School which is part of the Elk Grove Unified School District. So’s comic side became evident very early in life. As a kid, So dreamed of one day becoming a musician. When he turned 16, he began to take his comic abilities serious by performing stand up around clubs in Sacramento.

However, So didn’t let his passion for performing get in the way of his education. After high school graduation, he proceeded to attend the University of California, Riverside. His stay at the school was short-lived as he soon transferred to Sacramento University. About a couple of years to graduation So dropped out in order to focus on taking his comedy career to the video-sharing platform YouTube which had then begun to gain traction.

He launched his DavidSoComedy channel in early 2011. David began by posting in two main segments namely; “Krumpty Dumpty: True Life Stories Trailer” and “David So Stand up Comedy Clips!” The channel has come to include other segments like Living Out Loud: Live Vlogs, Funny, Fat Fit which chronicles his journey to losing weight, Skits/Sketches/Shorts, Heart to Heart series, Bloopers and more.

On his DavidSoMusic channel, David posts his cover of songs as well as his own original music. As of May 2018, the channel has about 150,000 subscribers with over 9 million views. DavidSoMusic was actually David’s first YouTube channel. It was launched on October the 3rd 2010 while the more popular DavidSoComedy was launched on January 28th, 2011.

David So has been in a longterm relationship with a certain Mariel Song. So initially kept the information of his romantic life away from his fans because his relationship with Song was still at the foundation level and he wasn’t ready to deal with fan judgments and criticisms.

However, he could only hide from fans for so long. He finally revealed who his girlfriend was in an Instagram post and later took to YouTube to talk about .

In that video, So revealed that he met Song “through one of his friends.” Before the big announcement So had featured Mariel on one of his sketches for a commercial where she played multiple characters. Dave said the quality that attracted him to Song was her weirdness and quirkiness.
