Dereck Chisora was born on the 29th day of December 1983 in Mbare, Harare, Zimbabwe. He was born to Zimbabwean parents – Paul and his wife Viola Chisora.

Dereck experienced an unstable childhood as his parents separated when he was just four years old and was left under the care of his grandparents – Phyllis Masarakufa and Angelo De Souza.

Meanwhile, Dereck wasn’t a sportsman from childhood; he served as a paramedic while in high school and he graduated from Churchill Boarding School.

When he was sixteen years old, Dereck went to be with his mother in England. Upon arrival, the youngster lived with his mother in Finchley, London. There he saw an opportunity to pursue a career in boxing for which he has garnered fame.

It didn’t take long for the fighter to master the basic skills and get his amateur boxing career to a start. He remained undefeated throughout his amateur career and recorded victories in all his fights.

Professional Career

Turning pro in 2007, Dereck kicked off his professional career in February via a fight against Hungarian boxer, Istvan Kecskes. After beating Istvan by a total knockout, Dereck went on to win his next three fights.

He also recorded wins against top fighters including Sam Sexton as well as Shawn Mclean and Lee Swaby. He held an 8 – 0 record in the first two years of his professional career.

Dereck Chisora continued to make waves in his career and went on to defeat Paul Butlin and two more fighters in 2009 before taking up the title bout against Danny Williams in 2010.

Dereck defeated Williams in May 2010 to become the British Heavyweight champion. His next fight was against Sam Sexton whom he won via a total knockout to clinch the Commonwealth heavyweight championship title in September 2010.

He also competed for the WBA, WBO Inter-Continental, and European heavyweight titles but eventually lost to Robert Helenius in December 2011.

He fought for the WBC heavyweight title in February 2012; however, he lost the fight by unanimous decision. His fourth professional loss came in July of the same year and after that, Dereck bounced back while winning his next five fights.

Amazingly, he won the WBO International heavyweight title after his triumph over Malik Scott in July 2013. He also won the vacant European heavyweight title by defeating Edmund Gerber in September and also defeated Ondrej Pala to add WBA International heavyweight title to his achievements.

He was defeated by Tyson Fury in 2014, hence losing his European and WBO International titles.

Dereck further won the vacant WBA heavyweight championship title after beating Carlos Takam in July 2018. The fighter named David Haye as his manager in October 2018 and his fight in December 2018 ended in a loss.
