Derek Mears is an American movie actor and stuntman. Asides being born in Bakersfield, California on April 29th 1972, nothing much is known about his childhood, except that he graduated from highland high school in 1990. He tried his hands on improv comedy for a while before he went into movies. He originally wanted to be an actor but since he wasn’t finding it easy to break through, he got little roles as an actor and bigger roles as a stuntman.

His first movie was the 1999 film Wild Wild West. When he didn’t really get many roles in movies, he shifted his attention to television roles and began to appear in some episodes of TV series like The Shield, The Flash and others. He got his big break in the movie industry when he was given the role of Jason Voorhees, the lead character in the 2009 movie Friday the 13th for which he was nominated for Best Villian in the MTV Award but the award was scooped by Heath Ledger who played the role of The Joker in DC’s The Dark Knight. After that, he began to appear more in movies, as well as TV series, playing bigger roles. In 2019, He played the role of Swamp Thing in DC’s television series Swamp Thing which was unfortunately cancelled in June 2019, just one week after its premiere aired.

His stunt credits can be seen in TV series such as Angel and Bones and in films such as the Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black PearlPirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s ChestIndiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Blades of Glory.

The duo met in 2006 and started dating in 2007. In 2008, they got married in a small wedding ceremony in front of a few friends and family members. They were together for four years before calling it quits in 2012. They didn’t have any child together. He is currently single and lives alone in New York.
