After bagging the 2009 Mr. Georgia Basketball and Mr. Basketball USA awards as the best high school basketball player in the state of Georgia and the whole country at large, Derrick Favors had the NBA world at his feet. The power forward/center, who was selected with the third overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft, has however not quite been able to relive the highs he achieved in his youth although, on his day, there are very few people that can stop him.

Bio, Age

Favors was born Derrick Bernard Favors on the 15th of July, 1991, in Atlanta, Georgia. He was one of three children of his single mother; Deandra Favors, who despite having had to work multiple jobs to provide for her family, was still able to guide her son towards the right part instead of allowing him to get drawn into the gang life of the crime-riddled Southside of Atlanta.

While growing up, Favors was very committed to his school work instead of sports despite his obvious athleticism. He was like that because he doubted his talents so did not want to let his education go to waste. His AAU coach thought otherwise as he was said to have been the person who always dragged Favor’s to court to practice his game. What later proved to be a motivation for him was when he stumbled onto children book that talked about his rise to stardom. He got motivated by the Los Angeles Laker’s legend’s story and never looked back.

At South Atlanta High School, Derrick Favors was considered the best in the country of all high school basketball players. In his senior year, he averaged 28.1 points, 13.3 rebounds, 5.0 blocks, 3.0 steals and 2.0 assists per game as he guided his school to the Georgia Class AAA state championship. Upon graduation, Favors chose to stay close to home by attending Georgia Tech instead of other reputable college basketball programs like NC State or Memphis which had all offered him scholarships.

In his freshman year of college, Favors averaged 12.4 points and 8.4 rebounds per game to help his team get to the ACC tournament finals where they lost to Duke University. Favors was subsequently named to the ACC All-Freshman Team as he was also named ACC Rookie of the Year after which he announced he was forgoing his three remaining college years to enter the 2010 NBA Draft where he was selected third overall by the New Jersey Nets.

Derrick Favors spent less than a year in New Jersey before he was traded to the Utah Jazz in February 2011 although he still managed to garner NBA All-Rookie Second Team honors. Favors has since then been a significant part of the Jazz set up.

Derrick Favors Family – Wife

It is not clear if Derrick Favors has gone as far as signing legal documents that would prompt his longtime partner, Shivolli DaSilva, to be described as his wife. Regardless, the pair, who have been an item for a long time now, have together welcomed a set of twin girls; Sanaa and Serenitee Favors, in 2015.

Ms. DaSilva, who like her man is an Atlanta, Georgia native, was born on the 23rd of November, 1990. After completing her education, she found work as a front desk manager at Gold’s gym in Atlanta as she also embarked on a modeling career. After having met her man and moved with him to Utah, DaSilva became an entrepreneur by first registering her very own production company called Volli Production, LLC. She and Favors then opened Minky Couture’s luxury blankets, S&S Lux.

Height, Weight, Other Facts

Derrick Favors is 6 feet 10 inches (2.08 m) tall and weighs about 265 pounds (120 kg).

Despite the bad blood between Favors and his biological father, who is said to have fathered numerous other children across the country, he obviously got the sports gene from the man who himself was a former Division I basketball player.

Derrick Favors never knew or met his father, Johnnie Parker, while he was growing up. Paker and Favor’s mother, Deandra, had an affair when the two were both employees of Eastern Airlines in Atlanta in the late 80’s and early 90’s. The affair later came to an end after Parker found out that Deandra was pregnant with Derrick. This prompted him to cut off all ties with her so his wife does not find out about his extra-marital relationship.
