Dominic Cooper Biography

Dominic Cooper was born on the 2nd of June 1978 in Greenwich, London where he was raised by his parents; nursery school teacher Julie (née Heron) and auctioneer Brian Cooper. He attended John Ball Primary School in Blackheath, London, and Thomas Tallis School in Kidbrooke, Greenwich before enrolling at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art where he studied acting and film editing.

Cooper graduated from the academy in 2000 and the following year, he made his movie debut in From Hell (2001) and his television debut in an episode of The Infinite Worlds of H. G. Wells (2001). That same year, Cooper showed his acting reach by also making his stage acting debut in a production of Mother Clap’s Molly House at the National Theatre. In the years to come, Cooper continued to perform on all three platforms although it felt like he was mainly concentrating on stage acting as he got to tour Broadway, Sydney, Wellington, and Hong Kong for the production of Alan Bennett’s award-winning play, The History Boys, which earned him a Drama Desk Award nomination. In 2006, the movie adaptation of the play was released and it garnered for Cooper more award nominations, including that for British Supporting Actor of the Year at the ALFS Awards.

Dominic Cooper’s film acting career got more boost after he appeared in The Duchess (2008), Mamma Mia! (2008), An Education (2009), and Freefall (2009). In 2011, he was nominated for the Best Actor award at the Saturn Awards for his role in The Devil’s Double (2011), a biographical film about Sadaam Hussein’s first son, Uday Hussein, and his body double Latif Yahia. That same year, he landed the role of Howard Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, first appearing in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) before playing vampire Henry Sturges in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012).

In recent times, after taking on antagonist roles of Dino Brewster in Need for Speed (2014) and Mehmed in Dracula Untold (2014), Dominic Cooper took up the protagonist role of Jesse Custer in AMC’s Preacher (2016-present) and has gone back to stage acting, appearing in the revival of Stephen Jeffreys’ 1994 play, The Libertine at the Haymarket Theatre.

His Wife

Dominic Cooper has never been married. He has however been in a number of high profile relationships with actresses Amanda Seyfried and Ruth Negga. Cooper began dating Seyfried in 2008, just around the time they worked together in the movies Mamma Mia! (2008). It has been reported that the couple was on and off for the two year period in which they were together, before calling things off in 2010.

That same year, Cooper began dating Ethiopian-Irish actress Ruth Neega who he had known and previously worked with. The pair grew to become best friends as they were always seen side by side at numerous events. They also went on to move into the same apartment in London as they were cast to work on numerous shows together, such as the short film Hello Carter (2011), Warcraft (2016), and Preacher (2016–present).

Everything appeared to be rosy between Cooper and Neega until it was reported that they had broken up in 2018. Neega has since clarified that she and her former boyfriend broke up two years before that time but since they were best of friends, it was hard for people outside their circle to find out.

Cooper’s Siblings (Nathan and Simon Cooper)

Dominic Cooper has a total of four siblings; two older brothers (Simon and Nathan), a younger half-brother named James and then a half-sister called Emma.
