Dont’a Hightower is an American football outside linebacker who plays for the New England Patriots of the National Football League (NFL) and was recognized as an All-American, an honor given annually to the best American college football players. Hightower was also a member of two BCS National Championship teams, highly noted for his versatility, as he can play both middle and outside linebacker.

Bio, American Football

Born on March 12, 1990, in Lewisburg, Tennessee, Hightower attended the Marshall County High School in Lewisburg, where he played for the Marshall County Tigers high school football team. Hightower’s career in the American Football took off when he started playing for his school’s football team during his freshman and sophomore year. As a teenager at that time, Hightower rushed for over 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns in the last four games of the season which gained him huge recognition in the game.

He played different positions in the course of his career in the game. When his height reached to 6 ft 2 in (1.88 m) prior to his junior year, Hightower was moved to linebacker and tight end from whence he collected 98 tackles, two sacks, and seven forced fumbles. At tight end, he caught 18 passes for 253 yards and four touchdowns. He once again switched position as a senior, playing defensive end which earned him 3A Mr. Football Lineman of the Year and The Tennesseans Defensive Most Valuable Player in 2007.

Hightower’s Career at New England Patriots

In 2012, Dont’a Hightower was the first round pick of the New England Patriots as well as one of the Patriots’ top linebackers, but it definitely wasn’t all sport for Hightower. His hard work in the field came with a juicy package as his four-year contract with the Patriots was reportedly worth $7.7 million. He was named one of the team captains for the 2016 season, registering 13 tackles, two quarterback hits, and 1.5 sacks. This earned him AFC Defensive Player of the Week and ranked him 94th on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2017.

Hightower was also part of the Patriots team that won Super Bowl LI on February 5, 2017, when the team won the game 34–28 against the Atlanta Falcons in overtime. Despite mouth-watering offers from the New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers, Dont’a Hightower chose the remain with the Patriots by signing a four-year $43.5 million contract to return to the team on March 15, 2017. With such whopping sum, he is now the second highest paid traditional linebacker in the NFL based on average annual salary.

Meanwhile, his 2017 season was cut short after he sustained two separate injuries – a knee injury and a torn pectoral muscle, which practically extracted him for the rest of the season. Even though Hightower won’t playing in the Super Bowl of February 4, 2018, due to his injuries, he will be remembered as one who sends New England Patriots out to AFC championship. Although he will be missing what would be the third Super Bowl appearance of his career, Hightower has won Super Bowls with New England in 2014 and 2016. Plus, he won BCS National Championships with Alabama in 2009 and 2011.

Family

Dont’a Hightower is known for celebrating his victories with his mother, L’Tanya, and sister Quenette. The linebacker and his younger sister were raised by their single mother. L’Tanya Hightower rarely had problems with her kids, according to her, they were good, active children and easy to raise during challenging times. She opened up about working two jobs to keep her family together, hence her children inherited strong work ethics.

Hightower shared a sweet experience with his caring mother. According to him, she’s been there for him always. From him coming in from high school games, having full body cramps and her coming in and rubbing his legs down. She’s been there since day one and she’s the reason why he’s at the top.

He made this revelation after his mother was diagnosed with diabetes in 2015.

Dont’a Hightower’s Girlfriend, Wife

Hightower met his girlfriend Morgan Hart while they were attending the University of Alabama. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts/Communication Studies and Public Relations in 2012. As an aspiring writer, Hart worked as a sports reporter with The Crimson White, a marketing intern at UHAPS Media, and an editorial intern at Over the Mountain Journal. While Dont’a Hightower remains single yet, his relationship with his girl seems stable and after such a long-term romance, maybe the lovebirds will seal the deal at the altar someday.

Body Measurements

Hightower’s body measurement definitely lives up to expectation, heavily built with a height of 1.93 meters (6ft 4in) and 122kg in body weight. He really does a good job of trying to take care of his body.

While Dont’a Hightower is expected to make a full recovery from his injuries, his fellow captain Devin McCourty said it’s a tough loss that he won’t participate in the 2018 Superbowl. However tough it is, Hightower is not staying away completely as he’ll be there to support and cheer his teammates.
