Doris Burke is a celebrated TV sports analyst currently employed by the ESPN as a color analyst and sports reporter. The versatile reporter also comes in as ESPN’s NBA sports analyst. Doris was not always in broadcasting, she was actually very active in basketball, hitting the ball with the aggressive agility of a male player during her high school and college years. Her enthusiasm and passion for the game earned her the record of a high scorer in her school’s basketball history.
The reporter made her debut on radio when she took the job of a women’s games analyst for Providence College in the year 1990. So far, Doris Burke has been the lead analyst for ESPN’s coverage of the WNBA; and the primary radio and television voice of the New York Liberty since 1997. In 2003, the female sports analyst was a sideline reporter for ABC and ESPN coverage of the NBA. It is important to note that she went on to become the foremost female color analyst for the New York Knicks game on both TV and radio.

About the famed reporter’s background, Doris Burke made her entrance into the world on the 4th day of November 1965 in West Islip. Of American nationality, she was named Doris Sable at birth but changed her last name to Burke after her marriage to her estranged husband Gregg Burke. The blonde reporter whose ethnicity has been identified as white was born under the zodiac sign of Capricorn as the last child of Peggy and Norah Sable and was raised in Manasquan, New Jersey, alongside seven other siblings.
For her education, she went to Manasquan High School where she started playing basketball as a point guard in her second grade. After graduating from high school, Doris proceeded to Providence College located in Providence, Rhode Island, where she continued as a point guard with the Providence Friars women’s basketball team. During her senior year, the agile baller was leading the Big East Conference in assists, she was once named the second-team All-Big East player and bagged the all-tourney team of the Big East Women’s Basketball Tournament twice. The title of the college Co-Female Athlete of the Year was won by her in 1987.
The year 1999 saw the young star making the record as Providence’s all-time leader in assists and in the same year, she became the fifth woman to be inducted into the Providence College Hall of Fame. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Health Service Administration/Social Work from Providence and after a few years, she acquired a master’s in Education.
Her career in broadcasting took off in 1990 when she began working for her alma mater as a radio analyst for women’s games. She also worked on television in the same role on Big East Women’s games the same year but in 1996, she began analyzing sports for Big East men’s games. One way or the other, the sports analyst has been working for ESPN since her debut in 1991. Doris’ records from her basketball playing years at college to her outstanding work in sports reportage – both for her alma mater and ESPN has earned her the pride of place in the field of sports. Consequently, she entered basketball Hall of Fame as the Curt Gowdy Media Award winner of 2018.
Husband, Daughter And Family Life Of Doris Burke
The famed sports presenter has been married only once in her life, she tied the nuptials in 1989 with Gregg Burke who is currently the University of Rhode Island Deputy Director of Athletics and the Head Gold Coach. Gregg sighted Doris Burke for the first time when she was in the field of play and his comment was that Doris played aggressively like a guy and goes all out for the ball when it is not in her possession.
It is on record that it was Doris who asked Gregg out first but Gregg himself popped the big question on bended knees when the duo was on Cliff Walk on Valentine’s Day. The couple did not waste time in getting married and had their first child, a daughter named Sarah in 1993 and in 1995, Sarah became a sister to Matthew who came two years after her.
Upon the arrival of her kids, Doris gave up basketball and became a full-time mother, but her husband proposed the idea of broadcasting the game instead since he (Gregg) believes that her pent-up passion for basketball shouldn’t go to waste. It happened that a vacancy was created when Greg got hit by a ball on his head, Doris who didn’t have any foreknowledge of the job took over from him and nailed it with her basketball experience. That first impression went a long way for her and before long, she was reporting sports professionally.
Despite the fact that the couple’s marriage hit the rocks for reasons that are yet to be made public, Doris will always owe the success of her career to her former husband. After her divorce, the sports reporter’s name was linked to that of the famed Canadian rapper in 2016 when he made a heart shape with his hands and pointed at her at a Toronto Raptors game. Drake did it again by appearing at the press conference for Toronto’s Drake night in a T-shirt with Doris’ face and the inscription Woman Crush Everyday (pictured above). When questioned about the T-shirt, the Canadian rapper responded that he is a great fan of Doris and desires to extend a dinner invitation to her so long as she comes alone.
Even though Doris Burke tweeted that she was all for the dinner, it never happened but the duo officially met at the Raptors game amidst hugs and kisses, though they are yet to confirm anything.
