Dwayne Allen, like many other American football players, has the sport to thank for giving him a better life that is much different to what he was used to while growing up. The tight end, who attended Clemson University before he was selected in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts, has gone from having a tumultuous childhood to becoming the dream of every child who hopes to one day make it to the National Football League and hopefully also get the chance to play in the Super Bowl.

Biography (Age)

Allen was born Dwayne Lamont Allen on the 24th of February, 1990 in the North Carolina city of Fayetteville as the last of seven children to his 21-year-old mother, who had her first child at the tender age of 11 for reasons that hzve not been revealed. Details about his father are not clear as he was not present in his son’s upbringing. While in grade school, Allen spent one summer with his father in Houston, Texas, where he lived, but as the story goes, the two never got along and therefore did not have a tangible relationship.

Dwayne Allen attended Terry Sanford High School where he first played basketball before he was convinced by his gym teacher to try out football. The young man went on to have a stellar high school football career that attracted interests from numerous programs that were desperate for his signature on their letters of intent. Allen, however, chose to attend Clemson University where he played from 2008 to 2011.

In 2010, his junior year, Allen started all of his school’s 13 games and recorded 33 receptions for 373 yards with 1 touchdown to earn a second-team All-ACC selection. As a senior, he recorded 50 receptions and scored 8 touchdowns to earn First-team All-ACC and Consensus All-American selections, as well as the John Mackey Award. When the 2012 NFL Draft came along, he was selected by the Indianapolis Colts with the 64th overall pick.

Allen did not appear to be fazed by the challenge he would face in the NFL as he kept up his performances in his rookie season. He went on to start all 16 games that season, ending the year with 521 receiving yards on 45 catches, and 3 touchdowns to earn a spot on the 2012 Professional Football Writers Association All-Rookie Team. The following year, Allen was meant to build on his previous year’s achievements, however, a hip injury sidelined him for a better part of the season as he only managed to play in one game. In 2014, he made a good comeback to the sport by recording 29 receptions for 395 yards, and 8 touchdowns.

Dwayne Allen remained in Indianapolis until March 2017 when he was traded to the New England Patriots where he has gotten to play under and with the legendary duo of Bill Belichick and Tom Brady.

In 2016, his average annual salary increased to $7.35 million after he agreed to a four-year $29.4 million contract extension with the Colts before he moved to New England.

Family – Siblings

As mentioned above, Dwayne Allen has seven siblings from his mother. It is not clear how many other siblings he has from his father’s side, however, not much is known about them other than the name of his younger brother, Justin.

Like Dwayne, Justin played football as a wide receiver in high school and in college for New Mexico State. He was set to have a career as a professional, however, multiple injuries ruined his chances of ever making it to the big leagues and he was left with no option but to become a personal trainer.
