Ed, whose full name is Edward George Skrein, is a born entertainer and very versatile in his craft. Although he had a rough start in life, he soon cleaned up his act and began to pursue his lifelong dreams in earnest. He is a well-accomplished actor, having featured in several blockbusters for which he has gained prominence. His most prominent but short-lived role was as Daario Naharis in Game of Thrones season 3 which steamed up his acting career and led to more prominent roles in movies like Deadpool, Transporter Refueled and Alita: Battle Angel.

Ed has also toured and had a successful career as a rapper. He used to work as a swimming coach and is a self-confessed comic book geek. Despite his many talents and accomplishments, he considers fatherhood his greatest achievement and biggest role in life. He sees himself as a devoted family man and enjoys spending time with his son.

Ed Skrein’s Career Exploits and Major Film Projects

Ed’s career in entertainment began in the music industry. After graduating with a degree in fine art painting from Byam Shaw School of Art. He released his first EP in 2004 with 3 songs and first album in 2007. He has collaborated with various artists and even teamed up with Dr Syntax in his 2009 album.

After a while, Ed decided to pursue his acting career. He made his debut in the short film Michelle by Plan B. His first lead role was also in a Plan B’s movie titled Ill Manors where he featured as Edward Richardson, all in 2012. In 2013, he featured in 2 TV series one of which was HBO’s Game of Thrones. Although he only appeared in 3 episodes in the third season, it appeared that the exposure was what he needed to take his career to the next level. He won the Screen International Award for UK Star of Tomorrow for his performance. After his exit from the show, he was immediately cast as the lead in The Transporter Refueled in 2014. While the film didn’t receive good reviews, his performance was praised and it grossed $72 million against a $22 million budget at the box office. Another production that earned Ed high praise and critical acclaim is his role as Ajax (lead villain) in action film Deadpool. He won an MTV Movie Award in 2016 for Best Fight and was nominated as “Best Villain” in the MTV Movie Award and Teen Choice Award in the same year.

Another notable work which has earned him an award recognition is the short film Little River Run where he is credited as writer and director. The work won him a Teen Jury Award at the Encounters International Film Festival in 2018.

He featured in revenge thriller In Darkness which started filming in 2016 and was released in 2018. In 2019, he featured in the blockbuster movie Midway by Roland Emmerich alongside established actors like Mandy Moore, Luke Evans, Nick Jonas, Patrick Wilson and Aaron Eckhart.

Some of his other major roles can be seen in films like The Sweeney, Northmen: A Viking Saga, Tiger House, Sword of Vengeance, Kill Your Friends, The Model, Patrick, If Beale Street Could Talk, Tau, Maleficient: Mistress of Evil, Born a King amongst others.

Why Did He Leave Game of Throne?

In 2013, Ed appeared in three episodes of TV series Game of Thrones season 3 as Daario Naharis a love interest of Daenerys Targaryen. But in season 4, he was replaced by another actor who looked nothing like him.

From all indications, he had plans of playing Daario on the show for a long time but according to him, he had to leave for political reasons. He admits that it’s a wonderful experience working on the show but he has stayed positive and moved on.

Family Background

While Ed was born in Camden, London and raised in boroughs like Islington and Haringer. His paternal grandparents were Austrian Jews who relocated to the UK. So, he is of Jewish Austrian and English descent.

The actor values family a lot and that’s why he is busy raising his own. He is a proud father to a son named Marley.

Who Is The Woman In His Life?

Despite constantly being in the media due to the nature of his career, Ed is one person who has tried to keep his relationships off the radar. He has chosen not to reveal anything about the woman in his life but it appears that he has been with the same woman for a while. They welcomed a son (Marley) together in 2011 and have been photographed together a few times. Although there is no news about their marriage, it appears they live together in London co-parenting their son.
