Eoin Macken is an Irish-born film and TV actor, filmmaker, writer and model. He began modeling and acting at about the same time, however, he found success in the former before he could make a headway in the latter. Macken has recorded several notable acting credits over the years but has gained much prominence for his extensive work on the small screen. He is well known to TV audiences across the world for his role as Sir Gwaine in the BBC hit series Merlin. He is also well known for his lead role on the 4-season long medical drama series The Night Shift and several others.

Eoin Christopher Macken was born on February 21, 1983, in Dublin, Ireland. Information regarding his early life is unavailable, however, we are in the know that he began his showbiz career during his college days. He modeled at the 2002 and 2003 Fashion Shows of University College Dublin after which he got signed to a modeling agency. His modeling career got very busy afterward as he got to work with some of the biggest names in fashion including Abercrombie and Fitch, Ralph Lauren, and GQ magazine.

While his modeling career soared, Eoin Macken also made his way into acting. His first major acting role was in the sports comedy film Studs (2006) followed by roles in several other Independent movies. In 2008, he marked his small screen debut on season 19 of the long-running series Fair City starring as a drug dealer Gavin Cluxton.

Still a budding actor, Macken opted to explore the behind-the-scenes aspect of the business and thus he wrote, directed and starred in his debut feature film Christian Blake (2008). He equally repeated a similar feat with his second feature film Dreaming For You (2009). Macken was also the director of The Fashion of Modelling, an hour-long documentary on the fashion industry of Ireland which was broadcast on RTÉ 2 in May 2009. The multitalented star also had starring roles in several TV series as well as telefilms.

Eoin Macken’s breakthrough role came in the hit series Merlin (2010-12) on BBC One, in which he portrayed the recurring character Gwaine. The series has since gained a cult following and Macken’s role has endeared him among TV audiences across the world. He landed an even bigger role on the NBC medical drama series The Night Shift (2014-17) starring as the lead character Dr. T.C. Callahan. Macken equally had a role in the telefilm Killing Jesus (2015) and the box-office hit Sci-Fi flick Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2016).

Eoin Macken’s father was an attorney and his mother earned her own living as a nurse. He grew up alongside two sisters Niamh and Freya. Just like her famous brother, Niamh Macken is also involved in showbiz, not as an actor but as a special effects artist.

Sadly, Macken’s father, James, passed on in 2007 after suffering a brain tumor. However, the movie star has continued to keep his father’s memory very close to his heart. He has a unique necklace on which are his father’s wedding ring and an Egyptian charm from his mother. Quite an eccentric piece of jewelry!
