As one of the most acclaimed and popular actors in the world, Ethan Hawke is a man that literally needs no introduction. He is an American director, writer, producer and novelist. He has directed three off-broadway plays, three feature films and a documentary. He got his start in the industry when he was cast in the 1985 science fiction film, Explorers. The film also starred River Phoenix, Jason Presson and Amanda Peterson. While Explorers was a great start, his breakthrough came when he was cast in the 1989 drama Dead Poets Society – which also starred Robin Williams in one of his most acclaimed roles.
He was later cast in the lead role in the 1994 American romantic, comedy-drama, Reality Bites. Ethan Green Hawke was born on the 6th of November, 1970 in Austin, Texas, His father, James was an insurance actuary while his mother, Leslie, was a charity worker. His parents were high school sweethearts who got married at a very young age – his mother was only seventeen at the time of her marriage and Ethan was born merely a year later.
At the time of his birth, his parents were students at the University Of Texas At Austin. Unfortunately, his parents got divorced when Ethan was only four, in 1974; after which, Ethan was primarily raised by his mother. The two moved around a bit before they settled in New York City where he attended the Packer Collegiate Institute, which is located in Brooklyn Heights. His mother, Leslie, soon remarried when he was ten years old and the family had to relocate to New Jersey where Ethan then attended West Windsor Plainsboro High School which was renamed in 1997 to West Windsor-Plainsboro High School South. After which he transferred to the Hun School of Princeton, a boarding school he graduated from in 1988.
Acting and writing have always been two of Ethan’s greatest passions and from an early age, he made the decision to nurture his passions. He made his acting debut in a school stage performance of Saint Joan when he was just thirteen; he also appeared in other school plays like You Can’t Take It With You and St Louis.
When he transferred to The Hun School Of Princeton, he began taking acting classes at Princeton University’s McCarter Theatre. After high school, he got admission to the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University to study acting, however, he dropped out when he was cast in Dead Poets Society, the movie solidified his position as an A-Lister in Hollywood. He later enrolled twice in the English Program at New York University. However, he dropped out both times to pursue different acting roles.
