If there is one thing an NBA team is sure to get with Jeff Green on its roster, its a decent work ethic and a double-figure point average at the end of the season. The former Georgetown University player, who was selected by the Boston Celtics in the 2007 NBA Draft with the fifth overall pick, has gone on to play for seven NBA teams, including the Seattle SuperSonics / Oklahoma City Thunder, Memphis Grizzlies, Cleveland Cavaliers, and most recetly the Washington Wizards.

Jeff Green’s Biography

On the 28th of August, 1986 in Cheverly, Maryland, Jeffrey Green Sr. and Felicia Akingube, welcomed their son, Jeffrey Lynn Green. With the encouragement and persistence of his father, Green began playing basketball from a very young age and was quite good at it, all thanks to the senior Green’s genes as he himself was a high school all-league guard. Green and his father would often play the game together on summer days when he was not with his mother and stepfather.

By the time Jeff Green was entering high school, he was already making a name for himself. He attended Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, Maryland, where he was notably scouted by a number of high profile college programs. In his senior year, Green was able to lead his high school to the 2004 state basketball championship before accepting an offer to attend Georgetown University.

Green had a very good freshman year at Georgetown, winning the 2005 Big East Rookie of the Year award and a selection to the Big East All-Rookie Team. In his sophomore year, he only managed a Second-team All-Big East selection before he was able to guide his school to their first Big East Tournament Championship in almost two decades in his junior year. Green’s efforts earned him a unanimous selection to the All-Big East First Team as he was also named the Big East Player of the Year and the Big East Tournament MVP. After this showing, Green opted to forgo his senior college year to enter the 2007 NBA Draft.

NBA Career and Stats

The Boston Celtics selected Jeff Green with the fifth pick in the 2007 NBA Draft but immediately traded him to the Seattle SuperSonics, a team known today as the Oklahoma City Thunder. In his rookie season, Green played in 80 games and averaged 10.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game which earned him a selection to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. In the 2008-09 season, Green started all of his team’s 82 games and averaged 16.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game.

Green’s stay with the Thunder lasted until February 2011 when he was traded back to the Celtics. At the end of that season, an aortic aneurysm was detected in a physical examination and his contract was voided by his team. The player subsequently underwent heart surgery and had to miss the whole of the 2011-12 season. Upon recovery, the Celtics signed him back for the 2012-13 season where he averaged 12.8 points and 3.9 rebounds per game in 81 games. He remained in Boston until January 2015, when he was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Jeff Green spent one and a half seasons in Memphis before he was again on the move, this time to the Los Angeles Clippers where he spent half a season. At the beginning of the 2016-17 season, Green signed for the Orlando Magic. The following season, he signed for the Cleveland Cavaliers, who he helped reach the 2018 NBA Finals but lost to the Golden State Warriors. In July 2018, the 10-year plus NBA veteran signed for the Washington Wizards for the 2018-19 season.

 

Wife and Family Life

Jeff Green will definitely admit to being the luckiest man in the world after he was able to date and then exchange vows with his wife Stephanie Hurtado. Stephanie is a 2015 Florida International University graduate who was born on the 17th of September, 1990, in Miami, Florida.

The couple was said to have first met each other at a club in Miami through mutual friends. It was reported that Jeff and Stephanie made an impression on themselves that night which prompted them to exchange phone numbers as they parted ways. The two then embarked on a phone call and texting relationship for three months before they were able to meet again.

At this point, both parties had become fully committed to each other, kicking off a love story that has culminated in them raising a family. After dating for a while, Green took his other half on what she taught was just another vacation to Greece in the summer of 2016. It was here that Green asked for her hand in marriage which she accepted. The following year, on the 9th of August 2017, the pair exchanged vows at the Four Seasons Hotel in Miami after they had already welcomed a daughter named Sofia Jade in February of that year.
