The overriding sentiment in popular culture is that if you’re born with a silver spoon, you’re likely going to live a frivolous life coasting off your parent’s success. Ireland Baldwin has done her best to go against the grain and build a brand of her own making.

Born on October 23, 1995, to Hollywood veterans, and , the American model and actress naturally began getting attention early on. It did not take long before she was signed to a talent management company, IMG Models in 2013, at the age of 17.

Since then, Ireland has walked the runway for many fashion shows and has been photographed for A-list magazines like Vanity Fair, Marie Claire, and Elle. She has also been on a few movies, television films and shows such as Access Hollywood, Good Morning America, The Great Illusion and Grudge Match. In the movie Grudge Match, she worked alongside her mother and played a younger version of Kim’s character, Sally.

Here are a few things you must know about the model.

1. Ireland Baldwin Comes from an Acting and Modeling Dynasty

Her parents’ careers span a combined duration of over 80 years and counting. Her father, Alec, in the early years of his career was in movies like Forever Lulu, The Doctors, and Love on the Run. Since then, the actor has grown into one of Hollywood’s finest with his extensive involvements in movies and tv series like The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, 30 Rock, It’s Complicated, and The Boss Baby. Alec has also been part of the iconic Saturday Night Live Show since 2007 and is most known for his humorous character impersonation of celebrities, most notably Donald Trump.

Kim Basinger since the 1970s has been in movies like Charlie’s Angels, Hard Country, and Mother Lode. In 1983, she appeared alongside Sean Connery as the bond girl Domino Petachi in the 1983 bond movie Never Say Never Again.

Ireland’s parents met in 1990 when they were playing the characters of two lovers in The Marrying Man. Their onset romance soon led to the real thing and they were married three years later, on August 3, 1993. Ireland Baldwin is the only child of their marriage. They divorced in 2002.

On her father’s side of the family tree, Ireland has three uncles who are also actors: Stephen, William, and Daniel. From these uncles, she has inherited a plethora of cousins including two other famous models, , and Alaina Baldwin.

2. She Followed in Her Mother’s Modeling Footsteps

Before Kim Basinger became one of Hollywood’s most recognized actresses, she had a modeling career. Kim spent five years in the early 70s as a cover girl before she decided to pursue an acting career. Kim appeared in a nude photo shoot for PlayBoy in 1981 and in an anti-fur ad campaign for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) in 1994.

So far, Ireland seems to be keeping in step with her mother’s career, although she has taken more after Kim’s modeling than her acting. Like her mother, Kim is an advocate of the humane treatment of animals, especially dogs. In her efforts to promote this agenda, she, like her mother twenty-four years prior, posed in her birthday suit for PETA in their 2018 ad campaign I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur.

Ireland, like her mother, used to be shy in her early years and was usually picked on for her height. By the time she started her modeling career, she stood well above 6 feet and received criticism from body shamers online saying she was “too tall for modeling”. She also suffered eating disorders as a result of the negative attention she received due to her size growing up.

3. Ireland Baldwin has Well Over 20 Tattoos

This is possibly the most distinguishable aspect of the model’s physical appearance. Ireland has been adding more tattoos over the past few years and now boasts of over twenty imprints especially on her left arm.

Some of them include a tribute to the late with a portrait of the singer on her left shoulder, which is essentially a sketch of his Aladdin Sane album cover. She also got a huge beautiful print of a Mandara – a spiritual symbol for the universe in Hinduism – directly below her David Bowie tattoo. On her left forearm, she has a tattoo of a skeleton with an inscription below it that reads: “Bad to the bone”.

Some of her smaller inkings include the word “Baldwin” on the side of her right middle finger. Her cousin Hailey also has the same tattoo. She also has the inscription: “Try a little tenderness” inked on her left ribs. Behind her left ear, you’ll find the image of a scorpion, a nod to her Zodiac sign. And on the nape of her neck, she inked the word “Truth”.

4. Her Father Left her a Voicemail that went Viral for the Wrong Reasons

In 2007, when Ireland Baldwin was 11 years old, she received a voicemail from her father that has since reached levels of infamy for its content. In the voice message, Alec famously called her a “thoughtless little pig”. The message soon made it onto the internet and earned young Ireland recognition for the wrong reason.

This caused a rift in her relationship with her father for a long time, however, the pair has since made up and are now closer than ever. She even has a tattoo of the word “squirrel” on her wrist, which is her father’s pet name for her.

In fact, in 2017, during the special comedy television show One Night Only showing on Spike TV, Ireland roasted her father in good spirit by calling him an “old ham” and reminded the audience of the voicemail from a decade ago.

5. Ireland Baldwin is Gender Fluid

That’s a fancy way of saying she is bisexual. Because of her support for people of alternate sexual orientations, she has been heralded as a role model of the LGBT community.

Ireland’s dating history has included people from both genders. One of her early relationships was with photographer Slater Trout. The couple attended a few public events together before they broke up. The model then started a relationship with female rapper Angel Haze but the relationship lasted for only a year as they split in 2014.

Her next relationship was with Noah Schweizer, who is a professional surfer. She even has a tattoo on her left arm celebrating her love for Noah.

Her father has a strictly traditional view of relationships. He even once stated in an interview that he will rather go to bed with a woman he despised than sleep with someone of the same gender. It took him time to come to terms with Ireland’s sexual orientation but he eventually did and has often voiced his support for her.
