Frankie Valli is a prominent and multi-talented American singer who garnered fame through being the lead singer of the group called The Four Season. His major hits include Sherry, Working My Back, and Who Loves You.

Frankie Valli Bio

The great vocalist Francesco Stephen Castelluccio was born in New Mark New Jersey on May 3, 1934, he grew up with his parents who were very supportive and caring. His dad, Anthony Castelluccio was a barber and designer while his mother was a homemaker and she also worked for a beer company.

Frankie is of Italian descent and he holds American nationality, during his childhood, he developed an interest in becoming a singer after he listened to an artist named Frank Sinatra performing in New York City.

The young man also received a qualitative education which has contributed to his successes today.

Professional Career

The talented vocalist started his singing career in the early ’50s with the band called Variety Trio. In those days of his humble beginning, Valli had always desired to sing in public and this dream started seeing the light of the day when he earned an opportunity to perform as a guest artist for the band group Variety Trio.

Before Valli featured consistently in the group, he worked extra hard on his own, he would listen to some of his favorite singers on record at home and then practice what he’d heard. However, the great vocalist doesn’t have Valli as his name but he realized he needed a stage name. Frankie later changed his last name Castelluccio to ‘Valley’ and eventually ‘Valli.’

Unfortunately for the upcoming singer, his band group Variety Trio dissolved in 1952 but the star along with Tommy DeVito went and joined a house band at The Strand in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

However, Frankie released his first single titled, ‘My Mother’s Eyes’, in 1953. After a while, Valli and Tommy DeVito had to leave the house band at The Strand and formed a group called ‘The Variatones’ which include the likes of Hank Majewski, Frank Cattone, and Billy Thompson.

The 4 Seasons

In 1956, the group name Variatones was changed to The Four Lovers and they recorded several albums. Two years later, in 1958, two members of the group left, Nickie DeVito and Hank Majewski and they were later replaced by Nick Macioci and Hugh Garrity. The group continued to perform until 1959 when Bob Gaudio became a member.

 

After a while, the group’s name was changed to “The 4 Seasons.” According to them, the name was inspired by a cocktail lounge where the group performed in an audition in 1960.

During the ’60s, the group was one of the most popular pop singers and their songs dominated American music chart for a very long time and they produced numerous songs.

New Jersey Boys

Frank Valli earned a proper recognition for his accomplishments with the group called New Jersey Boys, an award-winning music group in 2005. The Jersey Boys traveled around the world in various touring exhibitions and in 2014, the group produced a song that was also adapted into a film directed by Clint Eastwood.

For his immeasurable commitment to his group, and rock and roll music, Valli was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 and he also earned a spot in the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1999.

The opera singer has been married three times, his first marriage was to Mary who already had a two-year-old daughter prior to their meeting. The duo got married in 1958 when Valli was in his early twenties and they separated in 1971 after 13 years of marriage, they both had one daughter.

He then got married a second time to Mary Ann Hannagan in 1874 and this time, their marriage lasted for only eight years and they got divorced.

After his second marriage packed up, he gave the institution a third try and married Randy Clohessy in 1984, the couple had three sons and they also separated in 2004.

However, Valli had previously lost two daughters, first one was in 1980 when he lost her daughter named Celia to fire incident and six months later, he lost Francine through drug abuse.
