Freddie, as his name suggests, is the son of the iconic actor-comedian, Freddie Prinze. His mother was Katherine Elaine Barber, a real estate agent. Freddie’s father died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in 1977, less than a year after the actor was born on the 8th of March, 1976. Although he was born in Los Angeles, Freddie Prinze Jr was raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico as a Roman Catholic.

Ostensibly Caucasian, Freddie has embraced the exotic part of his origins – his paternal grandmother’s Hispanic ancestry. He is an accomplished Spanish language speaker and he attended La Cueva High School. At the end of high school in 1994, when most teenagers looked forward to the freedom and debauchery of college, Freddie moved to Los Angeles in pursuit of an acting career, beginning with an audition for television roles.

Barely a year after making the move to the City of Angels, Freddie got his first onscreen role as a guest actor on Family Matters, an ABC show in 1995. The following year, after appearances on a few television projects, he landed his first appearance in a feature film in 1996’s To Gillian on Her 37th Birthday. Freddie then landed several successful big screen projects, mostly in the young adult genre. He did, however, return in 2009 and stayed in a more permanent position as producer and director from 2010 to 2012.
