Biography

Born February 20, 1964, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Stewart was brought up by his mother who was a homemaker and his stepfather who was a microfilm technician. Stewart had a strong interest in the entertainment industry at an early stage, hence, his first appearance on television at age five in a local kids’ show called Captain Billy’s Clubhouse. He, however, attended Del Norte High School before moving to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts to get well acquainted with the world of acting. He then graduated with a B.F.A. in Theatre Arts.

More determined to make a breakthrough, French Stewart patiently toured in regional theatre, wearing a Yogi Bear costume at conventions and fund-raisers for Hanna-Barbera for seven years before landing his first acting role as a spaced-out DJ on the final season of the 1992 American sitcom The New WKRP in Cincinnati which was a sequel to the original 1978–82 CBS sitcom WKRP in Cincinnati. The six-season sitcom 3rd Rock from the Sun actually brought Stewart to the limelight following his role as Harry Solomon in the film. Other TV shows he recently featured include Secrets and Lies, 2 Broke Girls, The middle (aired from 2013-2017), among many others.

French’s name is a family name that has been passed down from his family’s four generation. Actually, he is French number four. He is currently married to Vanessa Claire Smith, an American actress, writer and producer, in the year 2011. The couple is blessed with a girl child.
