George Hill’s Biography, Age

George Hill was born George Jesse Hill Jr. in Indianapolis, Indiana on the 4th of May 1986 and he was also raised there by his single mother. There is no information about his father which leads us to assume he either died when he was still very tender or he was irresponsible and had abandoned his family. His mother’s name, however, is Tina Hill Woods and she must have raised him as an only child as there is no record of George having a sibling anywhere.

Hill played basketball from his childhood and his heroes in the game were legends like and and he also had a dream of entering the 2008 NBA Draft as a first-round pick. He had to attend the Broad Ripple High School for his high school education and there he started his basketball career.

He would give his best to the game like his life depended on it as he desired to go pro in the sport. His record in high school basketball was so good that he was counted among Indiana’s Magnificent Seven – a group of elite basketball players which included Josh McRoberts, Eric Gordon, Mike Conley Jr., Courtney Lee, Rodney Carney, and Greg Oden.

After his high school where he shone in all his four years there in the game of basketball, including averaging an outstanding 36.3 points every game in his senior year, George Hill enrolled at the Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) for college and also continued his career with collegiate basketball.

He had turned down offers from more prestigious schools with better offerings just because enrolling at IUPUI meant he would be close to his great-grandfather, Gilbert Edison, who was sick at the time. And even though Gilbert died before he even played his first college game, he stuck with his commitment to IUPUI.

Career and Injury Stats

In 2008, George Hill declared for the 2008 NBA Draft and was selected by the San Antonio Spurs as the 26th overall pick in the first round, thus, fulfilling his longtime dream. Hill signed a two-year contract and made his debut in the NBA against the Dallas Mavericks. Hill was initially billed to serve as a reserve point guard to starter , but an injury to the latter early on in the season meant Hill had his chance to become the team’s starting point guard, howbeit, for a while.

In the next season, his all-around game improved, thanks to his rigorous off-season training. This only meant that he got more minutes on the field and also started more games for the Spurs. His scoring average went up by a 100% and by April, Hill recorded a career-high of 30 points, 5 steals, and 7 assists against the Houston Rockets. At the end of the season, he was nominated for the Most Improved Player of the season award and he came in second place for the award, tying with  and .

In 2011, he was traded to the Indiana Pacers for picks at the 2011 NBA Draft and he served as backup for Darren Collison. He, however, picked up and injury and would sit-out for 12 games in the season. When he returned the next season, he got into the starting position in April when Collison picked up an injury. He, however, continued as a starter for the team in the point guard position (even though Collison returned earlier during the season) until the end of the season, as he had an average of 9.6 points per game including a field goal percentage of .442.

His double-digits in all five games of the playoffs series helped the Pacers get to the Eastern Conferences Semifinal but they would lose against the Miami Heats, who eventually became champions. Although he had equaled his career-high game point total of 30 in a game against the Houston Rockets (while he was still with the San Antonio Spurs), his best was yet to come and it did come against the Portland Trail Blazers in 2013 season where he recorded a career-high 37 points including 9 rebounds and 8 assists.

George Hill went down with a knee injury that forced him to miss 28 games in the following season (2014 season). He came back from the injury after a lengthy layoff to record his first career triple-double of points (15), rebounds (10), and assists (12) in a win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

He was involved in a three-way trade involving the Pacers, Utah Jazz, and the Atlanta Hawks in the 2016 season. He ended up with Utah Jazz and in his one season with them, Hill helped them end a four-game losing streak against the Denver Nuggets, despite his notable absence from the team most times due to injuries.

 

In his last game for Utah Jazz – a win over the Brooklyn Nets – Hill scored 34 points and by that set a new season record for himself. His next port of call was the Sacramento Kings where he signed a 3-year deal but ended up staying for only one. In 2018, he joined the Cleveland Cavaliers in a three-way deal and helped them to victory in the Eastern Conference, but couldn’t help them win the 2018 NBA Finals, which they lost to the Golden State Warriors.

George Hill’s rookie contract with San Antonio Spurs in undisclosed but he signed a five-year contract reportedly worth $40 million with the Indiana Pacers in 2012 and again he would sign another $57 million, three-year deal with the Sacramento Kings in July 2017.

The net worth of the talented NBA point guard who currently plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers is estimated at $32 million while his annual salary is $19 million (which will fall to $18 million after one year in his current contract).
