Almost always, talks about the beauty of Rock and Roll, somehow includes tales about the exploits of Glenn Frey and the fine songs of the Eagles. It would be difficult for history to forget the contributions of Mr Frey to the music industry. Possibly, rock genres like country, pop and soft rock wouldn’t have attained the heights they’ve reached today without the creativity and passion of people like Frey.

Frey was one of the most popular members of the Los Angeles rock band Eagles. Being one of the founding members of the band which came into existence in 1971, Frey earned the admiration of fans and attracted ample attention for himself with his exceptional performances as the lead singer of the band. It was only normal he represents the group. With him at the helm of affairs, the Eagles remained appealing to the public. Frey served this purpose for the Eagles with Don Henley, another founding member of the rock group. He and Don have severally been publicly acknowledged as the masterminds of most of Eagle’s great works. It is believed that they massively made it possible for the rock band to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; that was in 1998.

Beyond the Hall of Fame great esteem, Glenn bagged other prestigious accolades which recognized his good works as a member of the rock band. It is known that he received five American Music Awards and was also honoured six times with Grammy Awards.
Apart from being famous as an American singer and songwriter, Glenn Frey was also popular as an actor. He played several film and television roles which started when he received an invite to guest star in Anthony Yerkovich’s crime drama television series – Miami Vice. It is said that an episode of the series was inspired by the hit song Smuggler’s Blues from Glenn’s 1984’s album – The Allnighter.

After that, the musician was seen in other television series. While he was spotted on CBS’ police drama Nash Bridges, he portrayed Cody McMahon in another CBS series – South of Sunset. You will find him as Dennis Wilburn in 1996’s sports film, Jerry Mguire and as Spence in 1986’s action film, Let’s Get Harry.

Being the frontman of the Eagles, it has commonly been assumed that Frey is from Southern California, this is not so. The musician was born in Detroit and brought up in Royal Oak, Michigan by his parents, Edward and Nellie Frey who worked in the car industry. At birth, he was named Gleen Lewis Frey and, his birthdate is November 6, 1948.

Growing up, Frey was a very ambitious kid, he wanted to try out all the things that caught his attention. He loved books and fancied writing like he did with the idea of being an athlete, he was a good sportsman in high school. Nonetheless, it was his passion for music that kept burning.

As he was urged by his parents to learn how to play the piano when he was only 5 years old, Gleen developed a strong bond with music, it became part of his life. At a point, being good at playing the piano wasn’t enough for him. He had to get more out of music. When Gleen witnessed the Beatles perform in 1964, he made up his mind to make guitar his favourite musical instrument. And more than ever, he was determined to make a career out of music.

Owing to that, Frey worked with a good number of rock bands but didn’t make any meaningful progress until the birth of the Eagles. How did that happen? Well, famous Linda Ronstadt needed a backup band for her 1971 tour and Gleen was approached. He talked to Don Henley and convinced him to be part of the band. Later, Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner were equally invited to complete the band. After the tour, Frey, Henley, Leadon and Meisner decided to form a band which they named Eagles. The band was signed to David Geffen’s Asylum Records and worked with record producer, Glyn Johns to make music that wowed the world.

Internal issues made the band split. With that, Frey’s solo career commenced in 1982. He initially did well for himself but soon, started heading to obscurity. Thankfully, the Eagles got over what made them broke up and reunited sometime in 1994. The reunion wasn’t a disappointment, people still talk about their Hell Freezes Over tour.

Glenn Frey would later co-found Mission Records with Peter Lopez. That was in 1998.

Death and Funeral

It was a sad day for Rock and Roll when Eagles announced the death of Glenn Frey. The star died in New York on the 18th day of January 2016 at the age of 67. Before his death, it is known that he was having intestinal issues caused by irresponsible intake of alcohol and his use of drugs when he was much younger. According to a statement Eagles issued, his death was caused by complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia.

About a month after his death, a was held. The Eagles performed Frey’s popular song – Peaceful Easy Feeling – with one of his sons, Deacon Frey.

Glenn Frey’s Children, Wife, Family

At death, Gleen was survived by his family which includes his wife, , a daughter Taylor and two sons Deacon and Otis. He met Cindy as a choreographer and married her in 1990. However, the musician was first married to Janie Beggs. The marriage only lasted for a few years, 1983 to 1988.

In mid-January 2018, it emerged that Cindy filed a lawsuit against the hospital that treated Frey claiming wrongful death. Her case borders around the side effects of the treatment Frey received. According to Cindy, it rendered her late husband lame and disabled.
