Golden Tate is a National Football League (NFL) wide receiver who is on the roster of the Detroit Lions. Born Golden H. Tate III in Hendersonville, Tennessee on the 2nd of August 1988, the former Seattle Seahawks wide receiver was born to Golden Tate II and Yolanda Tate. It is not difficult to see where Tate inherited his athletic prowess from; as his father. Golden Tate II, also played collegiate football as a wide receiver for Tennessee State University.

Tate had his high school education at Pope John Paul II High School and showed his diverse supporting talents in baseball, football, and track/field events. In track and field events, Tate was renowned for short distance dashes. He held the state’s record for the fastest dash in the 100 and 200-meter dash (10.93 s and 22.33 s respectively). He also won the state championship with his school in the 4×100 m relay races. In 2006, his impressive statistics in high school football earned him a Tennessee Division II first-team all-state pick. And to cap it all, his jersey number was retired by the school in recognition of his excellent contribution to the game and for the school.

Golden Tate’s Career – Baseball

Tate enrolled at the University of Notre Dame but not to play football which he played so well in high school but to play baseball. He was tempted to continue playing football as an amateur and forgo his college education when he was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2007 amateur draft but he persisted with baseball. His freshman season saw him bat .262 with three doubles and three stolen bases in the 18 games he played. His game time improved in his sophomore season as he played a total of 55 games and scored 45 runs (a school record) with a batting average of .329.

College Football

Tate would go on to concentrate on football despite being drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 2010 MLB Draft. He started just two games as a freshman for the Fighting Irish (the football team of the Notre Dame). By his second season, his game time increased and he started 12 games in which he recorded 10 touchdowns with 58 catches for 1,080 yards. He helped the Fighting Irish to victory against the Hawaii Warriors in the Hawaii Bowl. Golden Tate made it to the first-team All-American in 2009 and also received the nod for the Biletnikoff Award in the same season.

Professional Career

It didn’t really come as a surprise when in December 2009, Golden Tate opted to take a shot at professional football and in the process forgo his senior year in college. he was selected by the Seattle Seahawks after declaring his availability for the 2010 NFL Draft. The Seahawks drafted him in the second round as 60th overall in the Draft and signed him on a 4-year contract worth $3.261 million. His stand out season with the Seahawks came in 2013 when he capped an outstanding performance in the season with a Super Bowl XLVIII victory over the Denver Broncos in a math where they trounced the Broncos side 43–8.

 

He left the Seahawks at the end of the 2013 season and signed with the Detriot Lions. Tate signed a 5-year worth $31 million.

Golden Tate’s Siblings, Parents

As mentioned before, the case of Golden Tate further authenticates the claim that an apple does not fall too far from the tree. He is not only his father’s son because they bear the same name, he is following in his father’s footsteps in his career also. His father, Golden Tate II also played college football and was also a wide receiver just like his son. He played for the Tennessee State University and went ahead to be selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the 5th round of the 1984 NFL Draft as the 120th overall pick.

His mother is Yolanda Tate and not much is know about her. Tate is not the only person who is an athlete in the family; he has a brother, Wesley Tate, who played for Vanderbilt University as a running back.

Married Life – Wife

Golden Tate is no more on the bandwagon of single men. He ditched singlehood on March 11, 2017, and got hitched to his girlfriend, Elise Pollard. The couple got engaged on the 12th of September 2015 in San Diego and waited two years before they decided to walk down the aisle in holy matrimony in the presence of family and close friends at Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Their family is already on the increase – on January 18, 2018, the couple welcomed their bundle of joy – a daughter, named Londyn Marie Tate.

Elise Pollard is an account executive and director of business development at Harvey Nash but before her, Golden Tate was known to be in a romantic relationship with , who was then married to . His alleged affair with Ashton led to the dissolution of their marriage.

The Detriot Lions wide receiver has a fine body physique; one that most guys, including athletes, would give anything to have. He is of average height and stands at 5 ft 10 in (1.78 m).
