The Carolina Panthers kicker Graham Gano has been one of the best placekickers making the waves in the NFL. He started his professional football career in 2009 when he signed up as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League. He went on to play for the Las Vegas Locomotives of the United Football League and the Washington Redskins before joining the Carolina Panthers. Interestingly, the superstar was named to the 2017 Pro Bowl; he won the UFL championship in 2009 and was named All-ACC First-team in 2008.

Graham Gano first stepped into this world on April 9, 1987, when he was born in Arbroath, Scotland. His father Mark Gano worked as the US Navy Master Chief Petty Officer in Scotland where he was born. He has five other siblings namely Allan Marnie, Elaine Marnie, Stewart Marnie, Daniel Gano, and Joshua Gano. He grew up in the Cantonment, Florida where he went to J. M. Tate High School. While he was there, he participated both in football and track events. His nationality is American while his ethnicity is white.

During his high school football career, he was named All-American First-team by USA Today and was ranked the nation’s third kicker by Rivals.com. He held three state titles in 100-meter, 200-meter, and 400-meter dash respectively at the 2005 FHSAA 3A District 1 competitions. After his graduation from High School, he went on to attend Florida State University where he continued his collegiate career.

Gano played for the Seminoles football team of Florida from 2005 to 2008. He played both as a kicker and a punter. He won the Lou Groza Award in 2008 for being the nation’s top kicker and was also named to the All-ACC First-team. In addition, he won the 2008 Champs Sports Bowl Most Valuable Player and he finished his college career as the second player with most 50-yard field goals behind Sebastian Janikowski.

Professional Career and Stats

After the 2009 NFL draft, Graham Gano signed up with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent. He was later dropped after the Ravens named Steve Hauschka as their placekicker. It was a hard time for Graham who hadn’t gotten an opportunity to play professionally. Shortly afterward, he signed up with the Las Vegas Locomotives of the United Football League where he earned his first career points. He was responsible for the Locomotives’ winning field goal which earned them their first UFL championship title. He finished the season leading in both scoring and field goals for the team.

In December 2009, Gano signed up with the Washington Redskins where he replaced Shaun Suisham who went on retirement. He became the starting kicker for the Redskins for the rest of 2009 season and the following year, he had to compete with Shayne Graham for the starting shirt. Having made the final roster for the Redskins in the 2010 season, he also retained it the following year. He finished the 2011 season with a record of 31 field goals out of 41 attempts and five misses out of 10 blocked kicks.

Following his release by the Redskins, Graham signed up with the Carolina Panthers in November 2012 replacing Justin Medlock. Gano played six games for the Panthers and converted nine out of eleven field goal attempts. He got a four-year contract extension worth $12.4 million with the Panthers in 2014. In 2015, he led the team to hold a franchise-best 7 – 0 start. The following season, he helped them move to a 14 – 0 record while finishing the season with 146 points. He was also named to the 2017 Pro Bowl.

Gano experienced his professional career breakout season in 2017, scoring 29 out of 30 field goal attempts and also turned 70 out of 83 kickoffs into touchbacks. He finished the season with a total of 121 points making it his fourth consecutive season with over 100 points and was named to the Pro Bowl. He became the recipient of the Ed Block Courage Award for his outstanding performance in 2017. In addition, he signed another four-year contract extension with the Panthers in March 2018.
