Only a few people would be able to match the energy, passion, love, intensity, and vibrancy Mick Jagger pours into music each time he is on the stage. The veteran singer’s voice packs so much agility that over five decades and counting he has never lost relevance or the respect and admiration people have for him. In the history of rock and roll, Jagger is unarguably one of the best, influential, revered, and popular frontmen. He has contributed so much to the music industry and spent many years of his life shaping the English rock band the Rolling Stones, which he co-founded and also leads from the front. Ever since the band started, Mick’s unique voice and bubbly live performance have been their trademark, proving that age has nothing to do with talent. The musician has been around since 1960 and is still active. This brings us to the subject of discussion – how old is Mick Jagger and how long has he been a musician?

How Old is Mick Jagger?

Having an outstanding career as a celebrity is not really an easy feat but then again, having a sound mind and staying relevant in your career beyond the age of 70 is something most people would be proud to achieve. Mick Jagger, we can say, has achieved both – he is still fit and relevant crossing 70. The veteran singer was welcomed in the world by his parents in the year 1943, 26th July to be precise. Dartford, a city in Kent, England, is the name of the city where he was born and his birth name is Michael Philip Jagger.

Mick was raised in a middle-class family by his teacher dad Basil Fanshawe Jagger and Sydney, Australia-born mom of English ancestry, Eva Ensley Mary. She was also part of the Conservative party and a hairdresser as well. Mick has a younger brother who is also a musician. On several occasions, the duo has entertained their fans together on the stage. His name is Chris Jagger (born 19 December 1947).

The Rollingstone frontman had his elementary education at Wentworth Primary School, Dartford. After relocating with his family Wilmington, Kent in 1954, Jagger successfully passed the eleven-plus in the same year and admitted into Dartford Grammar School. He graduated in 1961 and later began studies at the London School of Economics as a Business student on a government grant. He initially wanted to become either a politician or a journalist, comparing the former to a pop superstar.

How Long Has He Been A Musician?

Though Jagger was trained to follow his father and grandfather’s career path (become a teacher), his life was overshadowed by music from childhood. He was the type of kid that would sing all the time and was ready to make the most of it. Mick’s love for rhythm and blues was rekindled after meeting his old friend English musician/singer/songwriter in 1960 and coming in contact earlier with American singer/songwriter Little Richard.

Mick first gig was with the rhythm and blues group, Blues Incorporated, which was formed by Keith and guitarist Brian Jones. He met Jones for the first time after moving into a flat with Richards in Edith Grove, Chelsea, London, in 1961. From playing with Blues Incorporated at the Ealing Club, he rose to become a featured singer and later began working out ways on how to lay a foundation for what would become The Rolling Stone.

Over five decades and counting, Mick Jagger has never disappointed. The English singer/songwriter has gained worldwide fame through his albums, singles, and other endeavors in the entertainment industry. He has released about 24 hit singles including “Gotta Get a Grip/England Lost” (2017), “Dancing in the Street” (with David Bowie, 1985), “Memo from Turner” (1970), “Sweet Thing” (1993), “State of Shock” (with The Jacksons, 1984), and “God Gave Me Everything” (B-side “Blue”, 2001), 3 collaborative albums – SuperHeavy (by SuperHeavy, 2001), Alfie (soundtrack, with Dave Stewart, 2004), and Jamming With Edward! (with Ry Cooder, Nicky Hopkins, Charlie Watts, and Bill Wyman, 1972).

Jagger equally boasts one compilation album titled: The Very Best of Mick Jagger. It was released on 1st October 2007. He has four solo albums released in 1985 (She’s the Boss), 1987 (Primitive Cool), 1993 (Wandering Spirit), and 2001 (Goddess in the Doorway).

Besides his music career, Mick Jagger is also a household name in the movie industry; he is an actor and a film producer. Some of the movies credited to him as the producer are Running Out of Luck (1987), Enigma (2001), Vinyl (2016), The Women (2008), and Being Mick (2001).
