Ines Rau was one of the first models to boldly embrace their transgender status and even display their true identity on various platforms. She was born as a boy on March 18, 1990, in Paris. Of Algerian descent, Ines Rau came from a Muslim family headed by her Algerian father and French-Moroccan mother. Growing up as a boy, Rau was more drawn to feminine things. Everyone around him noticed this but no one knew he would eventually opt to change his sex. It continued this way until Rau made a decision to undergo sex reassignment surgery.
Her main source of inspiration was the life story of transgender model Caroline ‘Tula’ Cossey. Ines was greatly inspired by the story, which gave her all the morale she needed to take the bold step. She was 16 when she finally had the surgery. The surgery cum transition was successful and Rau began to live like a woman. However, she kept her transgender identity secret and waited for the right time to disclose it.
Ines Rau started to explore the entertainment industry which had always been of interest to her. She started dancing for different DJs in Ibiza, Spain and made a lot of money from it. She also went on to work for other stakeholders and made a lot of contacts including with who become a friend of hers.
Ines Rau came out as transgender in 2013 when she was 24. It was a pleasure and a relief to the model who was more than ready to show herself to the world. Following her proclamation, she posed nude for a French magazine, OOB with American model . The following year she was featured in Playboy’s A-Z issue. It was to grace the theme ‘Evolution’, through which the magazine emphasized the evolving world and how it has come to embrace other gender identities apart from male and female.
Her popularity was growing rapidly in the modeling industry and she began to work with different stakeholders including Alexis Bittar and Nicole Miller. Her face graced the covers of many notable magazines, as she also modeled for different brands. In 2017, Ines Rau appeared in Playboy magazine’s November/December issue as Playmate of the Month becoming the first openly transgender model to take the title. Her playboy appearance in 2014 also made her the second transgender ever, to be featured in the magazine. The first was Caroline Cossey, her source of inspiration.
