Gisele Bündchen needs no introduction. The Brazilian model is one of the few genuine supermodels in the world. In a mercurial career spanning three decades, she has appeared on the cover of over a thousand magazines. She has also modeled for several renowned fashion houses and has risen to become one of the richest women in showbiz. Bündchen has since scaled back her modeling career and is now focusing on activism and charity work.
How It All Began For Gisele Bündchen
Gisele Bündchen was born on the 20th of July 1980 in Horinzontina, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. She hails from a middle-class family of eight including father, Valdir, and mother, Vania. The model also has five sisters including a fraternal twin sister named Patricia. Bündchen spent her formative years in Southern Brazil. By her own accounts, she was quite thin as a child and was often ridiculed for that fact which made her wear double sets of clothes in order to look thicker. However, the body that caused Bündchen much misery would turn out to be her selling point.
At the age of 14, the young girl was approached by a modeling agent while shopping. They signed her on and she subsequently took part in several modeling contests where she came tops. By the age of 16, Bündchen moved to New York to pursue her career.
Major Milestones in Her Career
In the Big Apple, Bündchen took part in the annual New York Fashion Week. She then featured in other international shows before appearing on the cover of American Vogue in July 1999. This appearance was celebrated by many who hailed her for bringing back the sexy model idea, with her 36-24-35 curvy figure and retiring the era of the pale, extremely thin, heroin-chic model. Since that 1999 breakthrough, Bündchen has gone to become one of the most iconic models in world history. She has appeared on the cover of over a thousand magazines including the prestigious Vogue which she has covered more than 120 times.
The Brazilian native has also modeled for top fashion brands including Victoria’s Secret. Bündchen famously modeled Victoria’s Secret Red Hot Fantasy Bra (worth $15 million) and Sexy Splendour Fantasy Bra (worth $12.5 million); the two most expensive bras ever made. Additionally, Giselle Bündchen has served as the brand ambassadors for several companies, including Pantene Shampoo, Chanel No. 5, and Under Armour, and has featured in over 500 TV Ads.
Gisele Bündchen is One Half of a Truly Gorgeous Power Couple
It is often said that no individual really has it all but Gisele Bündchen’s life certainly challenges this notion. The supermodel is married to a fellow superstar in the shape of NFL and New England Patriots great, Tom Brady. Widely regarded as the GOAT of American football, Brady has won a total of six Super Bowls, the most of any player. He has also been named the Super Bowl MVP on at least four occasions. The Patriots star has also set several records including being one of only two players to amass 70,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards in NFL history.
So, how did the couple’s love story unfold? Well, Bündchen and Brady first met on a blind date set up by a mutual friend in December 2006. It was love-at-first-sight for the pair and they ended up talking for three straight hours. They later embarked on a flurry of dates and eventually commenced a relationship. Bündchen and her beau spent the first few months of their romance in relative bliss. They, however, hit a major snag after Brady’s ex, Bridget Moynahan (whom he had dated from 2004 to late 2006), disclosed that she was pregnant for him.
The revelation shattered Bündchen and she thought of throwing in the towel. She, however, decided to stick by him and the rest is history. The couple tied the knot in a civil ceremony in Santa Monica, California, in February 2009. They also held a lavish wedding ceremony in Costa Rica a month later. Gisele Bündchen and her husband now have two children together namely Benjamin Rein (b. December 2009) and Vivian Lake (b. December 2012).
Another important member of their family is Brady’s son with Bridget, Jack (b. August 2007). The couple’s union has stood the test of time and Bündchen has disclosed that the reason for their longevity is that she pays lots of close attention to her man.

Gisele Bündchen officially stepped away from runway modeling in 2015. Since then, she has scaled back other aspects of her professional career and is now focused on charity. The supermodel has devoted her time and resources to several causes that are close to her heart including breast cancer awareness, provision of AIDS treatment to poor people, and provision of clean water and toilet facilities for rural communities.
Bündchen is also a passionate environmental activist. This stems from her belief that we are all interconnected and as such, human beings should live in harmony with other species as well as the earth. To this end, the model has supported numerous eco-friendly projects. On a personal level, she and her family practice the three Rs of reduce, reuse and recycle. They compost, eat veggies from the gardens and also has solar panels in their homes.
