Anton Du Beke Bio
The dancer was born Anthony Paul Beke on July 20, 1966, in Sevenoaks, to a father of Hungarian descent, Antalya Xavier Beke, and a Spanish mother, Ascensión Lena. He is the first of three children. Anton attended Wilderness School for his early education.
Anton began dancing when he was 14 – after he was registered for local dance classes. It was a pretty old age to take up dancing, but his ability to learn quickly combined with his natural talent allowed him to advance easily. Anton Du Beke loved dancing and studied several disciplines: Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, and modern theatre dance. He also enjoyed other pastimes like boxing and football.
The young dancer began working a number of odd jobs to pay for his dance training after leaving school at the age of 16. A year later, he decided to specialize in ballroom dancing and began competing as an amateur, preferring to follow the steps of Fred Astaire, his Hollywood hero. His movement of choice was the Foxtrot, which he liked because it was romantic, stylish, and timelessly classic.
In 1997, Anton met Erin Boag, and she became his dance partner. They began competing professionally, going on to win numerous international and national awards, including the NZ Championships which they won the following year and retained a year later.
Anton Du Beke has competed in Strictly Come Dancing, in all fifteen seasons, dancing with stars like Lesley Garrett, Esther Rantzen, Patsy Palmer, Jan Ravens, Kate Garraway, and Gillian Taylforth. Interestingly, he has never won the series or finished above third place. His worst appearance was in season 6 when he got eliminated in the very first week. He is the longest-serving male professional dancer on the show.
Over the span of his career, Anton has won several championships, becoming the IDTA Classic Champion in 2003, UBC Canadian Champion in 2002, BDF Star Ball Finalist in 2003, UK & International Rising Star Finalist in 2003, and British National Finalist in 2002 and 2003.
The veteran dancer is also known for his work on Down to Earth, Hole in the Wall, Step Up to the Plate and Doctors. He is estimated to be worth $10 million.
