Barbara’s husband is Ken Dudney. Just like the singer, he has had a very long career in music although he is less popular as he’s a drummer. It was on July 23, 1941, that he was born in Franklin, Tennessee, USA. While not so much is known about him, it is known that he has been by his wife for a very long time.

Starting out as the drummer of her family band, he would later be her husband as well as producer. The couple is known for their long travels together. Ken is known to have participated in World Skeet Shoot Tournaments.

Coming from a musical family, Barbara’s father Irby Matthew Mandrell had a family band known as the Mandrell Family Band. At the time, the band was looking for a drummer and somehow, the person they hired was young Dudney who according to Barbara, was both kind and polite, as well as cool.

While she was still a teenager at the time they first met, the drummer was already in his early 20s. Because of the age difference, her parents while trying to protect their daughter separated them and went as far as forbidding them from seeing each other. However, they still remained faithful to each other and continued their relationship through high school.

Even though they had been very much in love since the time they met, the young singer would later turn down the marriage proposal of Dudney more than a couple of times. She wanted to get married to the drummer but what she wanted more was to at least, finish her high school before she would finally settle down.

The couple had their first child (Kenneth Matthew Dudney) in 1970 followed by Jaime Nicole Dudney who was born six years later and then Nathaniel Mandrell Dudney; Nathaniel was born in 1985.

When he was much younger, Kenneth was addicted to alcohol, something he struggled with for quite some time. He later sought medical help and has since gained his freedom. Kenneth is married to Christy Sutherland who is a Christian singer.

How Long Have They Been Together?

Barbara Mandrell and Ken Dudney have been together for a better part of their lives. As noted, they fell in love when she was only 14, but it was in 1967 that they walked down the aisle. More than five decades later, the couple is still very much together and as it seems, they may be together for the rest of their lives.

Shortly after they got married, Barbara briefly retired from music in order to become a housewife before later reconsidering the decision and going back.
