Life comes to us in different folds. For some, it is a roller coaster of comfort, wealth and fame while to others, it is a mix of the unpleasant and at times pleasant things that come later in their life which they can’t help but revel in. One person who falls in the category of the later is Donnie Mcclurkin.

Donald Andrew “Donnie” McClurkin, Jr. was born in Chester, South Carolina on November 9, 1959. By the age of 8, he lost his younger brother to a hit-and-run driver, shortly afterwards, he became a victim of sexual abuse as a child by his uncle and as years passed, his uncle’s son still abused him sexually. The painful experiences in Donnie’s life once again reignited as two of his sister suffered from substance abuse. Nevertheless, there is always a light at the end of every dark tunnel and the light in Donnie Mcclurkin’s tunnel (life) was Jesus Christ whom he found while going to church and being encouraged by his aunt who sang with Andraé Crouch, a gospel musician.

Growing into his teens, he formed a musical group called McClurkin Singers and after some time, he put together another one called the New York Restoration Choir with which he began recording in 1975. These were all in devotion to his new found love in Jesus Christ and ultimately, in furtherance of his career as a gospel musician.

Come 1989, the South Carolina gospel musician was hired as an associate minister at Marvin Winans’ Perfecting Church in Detroit, Michigan where he served as an assistant for more than a decade.

His respite from the vicissitudes of life was however interrupted in 1991 when he began having a sharp pain and swelling followed by internal bleeding which was later diagnosed to be leukaemia. It was as if the sickness came to cut short his joy and the blessing he had become in Christ to many believers, his doctor suggested immediate treatment but for his faith in the word of God, Donnie who was aged 31 then decided to practice the very thing every Christian minister preaches; the omnipotence of God to heal all. To this, his belief didn’t fail him. As he not only survived without undergoing medical treatment but went on to do other great things in propagating the gospel o Jesus Christ.

Donnie Mcclurkin has over the years, built a successful career as a gospel musician with many awards to show for it. He has to his credit, his 1996 eponymous album Donnie McClurkin under the Warner Alliance label, Again in 2013 with the Verity Records label, and Duets in 2014 under RCA Inspirational label. Some of his spirit reviving singles are “Church Medley” (2006) and “I Need You” (2014). Donnie has won three Grammy Awards, two Soul Train Awards, ten Stellar Awards, two BET Awards, a Dove Award and an NAACP Image Awards with many more still to come.

Is Donnie Mcclurkin Married, Who is His Wife and Son?

Around August 2016, the gospel musician who God cured of leukaemia was to be in a relationship with Nicole C. Mullen, a female gospel singer when they made an appearance on TBN’s Praise the Lord a faith-based talk show with fellow pastor A.R. Bernard.

Matt Crouch, the host of the show, announced that Donnie was getting married, no one had to think far on who the bride would be as Nicole C. Mullen very much fit in the picture of a better half for God’s servant. McClurkin didn’t deny the likelihood on the show but Mullen further clarified her stand through Twitter, stating that while they were dating, they are not set to marry. She threw more light on the topical issue in a  she had with Premier Gospel stating that they were headed towards that (marriage) but protocols had to be followed and they still had to talk about a lot of things.

This, therefore, means that Donnie Mcclurkin is not married to Nicole C. Mullen yet but is still in a relationship with her.

The musician has a biological son named Mathew Mcclurkin (born in the year 2000) who he had with Kim, he is also father to a girl named Michelle who he adopted when she was 9 years old, just the following year after his son was born.

Is He Gay?

After losing his brother to a hit and run accident, Donnie and his other siblings were sent to stay with their grandmother and after some time with their uncle Clarence.

It was his uncle who at the time he described as a “broken man” robbed him of his sexual innocence. As an 8-year-old, before he ever had his first kiss from a girl, Donnie was sordidly raped by his uncle and subsequently thrown into a world of confusion. By the age of 13, his uncle’s son Clarence Jr. raped him as well and even made him his sex slave with threats of doing worse things to him if he tells anyone.

Donnie Mcclurkin lived in confusion for years as he even found men of similar intent in the church which was his safe haven. Nevertheless, with the redeeming love of God, he was able to find peace. His past experience at the hands of gay relatives, however, did not make him gay.
