Gong Yoo Bio – Age

Although he is mostly known by fans as Gong Yoo, the real name of the actor is Gong Ji-Cheol. He was born July 10, 1979, in Busan, South Korea. He decided to adopt the names and surnames of his father and mother to make his own stage name.

For his education, the actor went to the Kyung Hee University from where he graduated with a B.A. theater degree. It was after he was done from here that he took to acting more seriously. But before then, he worked for some time as a Video Jockey.

The first production he took a part in as an actor was in School 4 in 2001. This was followed by other television series including Whenever the Heart Beats and Hard Love in 2002, 20 Years, Best Theater: Flying Saucer, Screen, and My Room, Your Room in 2003. The coming years saw him take part in more TV series. Biscuit Teacher and Star Candy, and Guardian: The Lonely and Great God among them.

Apart from the TV series, he made his movie debut in 2003 when he played a role in My Tutor Friend. In 2004, he was in Spy Girl, Superstar Mr. Gam, and S Diary.

His most successful work thus far, came in 2016 when he played a role in Train to Busan. The movie was very successful in the country as well as in places like China, Malaysia, and Singapore, becoming the highest grossing South Korean movie. It was nominated for as much as 33 awards including the Saturn Awards. From these, the movie was able to clinch ten awards in different categories.

Without any doubt, Gong Yoo has thus far, had a very successful career which has been capped with many accolades in the forms of awards such as the SBS Drama Awards, MBC Drama Awards, Mnet 20’s Choice Awards, Blue Dragon Film Awards, and Korea Culture and Entertainment Awards among many others.
