She was born on December 14, 1967, to archaeologist parents. She is of American nationality though her parents are of Irish-American ethnicity. When she was three, her family moved to Alaska and settled there. Kirsten Powers recalls that as a child she would be made to state issues of the day and state her stands on them at dinner. This according to her was how she developed an interest in politics.

Kirsten Powers attended Monroe Catholic High School after which she proceeded to the University of Maryland. She then spent a year and a half at Georgetown University Law Center. Kirsten started her career in 1992 as a staff with the Clinton-Gore presidential transition team. She was soon appointed as Deputy Assistant US Trade Representative for Public Affairs under the Clinton Administration. Powers held this role from 1993 to 1998 and then went on to take up secretarial and consultancy roles for different political parastatals. Some of them include the New York State Democratic committee where she took up several positions.

Also an author, she released the book, The Silencing: How the left is Killing Free Speech. Kirsten caused an uproar on Twitter after she criticized students of Covington High School for disrespecting an Indigenous elder. This was concerning pictures of one of the students seemingly smirking at an elder which emerged after the Indigenous Peoples March on January 18, 2019. Kirsty is a strong supporter of the LGBT community and also supports same-sex marriages in churches.

Why Did She Leave Fox News?

Kirst Powers worked as a political analyst and contributor at Fox News before making her way to CNN. Joining Fox in 2003, she was a regular contributor on various programmes on the media house including; The O’Reilly Factor, Fox News Sunday, The Kelly File and many others. She played a significant role in covering the 2008 and 2012 elections.

Kirsten Powers left Fox News in 2016 during the heat of the sexual harassment scandal that led to the resignation of the founding CEO . Kirsty left precisely one month after Ailes’ resignation raising questions on the motive behind it.  It was during that time that Powers brought to light that she suffered various forms of disrespect from Bill O’Reilly during her time at Fox News. Bill according to her made lots of inappropriate comments towards her and got away with it despite her efforts to bring him to book.

The renowned journalist was once married in 2010 to Marty Makary, a professor of public health at John Hopkins University. The couple went their separate ways in 2013 after finalizing their divorce. Before Makary was a former congressman, whom she dated in 2002. In November 2016 word broke that the political analyst was engaged to Robert Drape, also a journalist.
