Mark Ballas’ Bio and Ethnicity

Mark Alexander Ballas, who is popular for the TV show “Dancing With The Stars” was born on May 24, 1986, to Corky Ballas and Shirley Rich in Houston, Texas. He comes from a family with a long line of musicians. While his father, Corky was a flamenco guitar player, his mother, Shirley was a dancer, his grandmother was a castanet player and his uncle was a guitar player. His paternal grandfather, George Ballas, was a popular man who was known for his invention of the Weed Eater lawn trimming device.

Mark Ballas’ ancestry is mixed – Greek, Mexican, Spanish and English – but he is an American by nationality and his ethnicity is white. He is gifted and multi-talented as a dancer, choreographer, singer, songwriter, musician, actor and also plays the guitar very well. Mark is a singer and songwriter for the group, Ballas Hough Band, he is the lead vocalist and also plays the guitar. He also formed a music group – a duo – with his wife called Alexander Jean.

He started writing poems as early as age 5. After leaving Rosemead Preparatory School, South London, he enrolled at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts in London where he studied Arts through a scholarship programme. He was eleven years old at the time, and by age 13, he was already writing actual songs that made him want to sing and he decided to start taking voice lessons so that he can develop his voice.

He won the “Performer of the Year” award in 2005 and he also won three championships progressively – the British Open to the World, the U.S Open to the World and the International Open to the World. Mark, being so talented at a young age, also won the junior Latin America Dance Championship and the Gold medal at the Junior Olympics with his former partner, Juliana Hough. In 2011, Ballas was nominated for an Emmy award for Outstanding Choreography and in that same year, he released his first solo CD “HurtLoveBox”

Acting Career

Talking about s an actor, Mark Ballas starred in the musical movie “Copacabana” where he played the character of Tony. In the United Kingdom national tour of the Spanish musical Maria de Buenos Aires, he was the lead dancer and also played the role of Ritchie Valens the understudy in the UK national tour of Buddy. He also has an acting role in the popular movie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. He was a guest on the season premiere of  Samantha Who and on September 6, 2016, it was announced that Mark was going to be the final actor to play the role of Frankie Valli in the Broadway cast of Jersey Boys before it was shut down in 2017.

Mark Ballas is married to Brittany Jean Carlson widely known as BC Jean. They got engaged in November 2015 after dating for three years and finally got married one year later – on November 25, 2016, in Malibu, California, United States. BC Jean was born on April 22, 1987, in San Diego, California to Lori Carlson, who was her mother. Her father was a trumpet and piano playing stockbroker. She also took to singing from her parents, just like her husband and she is an American singer, songwriter, and actress.
