Takeshi Kaneshiro is a Taiwanese-born Japanese actor and singer. He was born to a Taiwanese mother and a Japanese father on October 11, 1973, in Wanhua District, Taipei, Taiwan. His father was a businessman while his mother is a homemaker.

Growing up, Takeshi was a spendthrift. His parents were financially buoyant and they got him everything he wanted as a child. He studied at Taipei Japanese Junior High School.

After graduating from junior high, he went on to study at Taipei American School, an English-speaking school in Taiwan.

As a child, he grew up with a love for watching films, and oftentimes, he would sneak out to the cinema to watch films without the consent of his parents, as they didn’t allow their kids to watch films that much.

When he got to his teens, he began to explore music, as he learned to play the guitar and also sing. During that period, he began receiving offers to appear in TV adverts. Around the same time, he dropped out of high school and chose to pursue careers in acting and singing.

Career

Takeshi Kaneshiro was only 19 years of age when he dropped his first album, titled Heartbreaking Night in 1992. His debut album brought him to the limelight, and shortly after the release of his album, he began to receive film roles.

Kaneshiro made his acting debut in 1993 when he starred in Heroic Trio 2: Executioners as Chong Hon. His next movie role came in the following year when he was cast as Kenji in Mermaid Got Married.

Still, in 1994, he starred in other films such as The Wrath of Science, Chungking Express, and No Sir!.

By 1995, Kaneshiro was already popular and roles began pouring in more often. He starred in six films in 1995, and amongst them was the popular Hong Kong drama film, Fallen Angels, where he starred as He Zhiwu.

In the following year, he featured in a total of five mainstream films. The actor has since become a significant figure in the Asian entertainment industry and is set to feature in the 2019 film, Sons of the Neon Night.
