Ivan Rabb’s Biography

The American professional basketball player was born on February 4, 1997, in Oakland CA. Asides the fact that he was named after his father and his mother’s name is Tami Rabb, nothing much is know about his parents. His only known sibling is Tamarik and he is also the cousin of NFL player Reggie Rogers.

Before he turned 7 years old, Ivan began playing basketball and continued in his high school days at Bishop O’Dowd High School where he recorded a 3.15 GPA and won two CIF Northern California Open Division basketball championships as well as one CIF Open Division State Championship. The game continued for Ivan Rabb at the University of California, Berkeley where he made ESPN’s 2015 top 100 recruits at #8. Deciding on which college to attend wasn’t easy for the baller as he made a long list of institutions consisting of Arizona, Cal, Duke, Georgetown, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina, UCLA, and USC, to chose from.

The list was later narrowed down to five – Arizona, Cal, Kansas, Kentucky, and UCLA with Arizona and Cal being the last two standing by March 2015. Eventually, the University of California, Berkeley won the quest and he enrolled to play for the Golden Bears. Meanwhile, his high school seasons were well decorated with accolades including the 2015 CIF Open Division State Championship; 2014, 2015 CIF Northern California Open Division Championship and also the McDonald’s All-American in 2015.

Ivan Rabb’s freshman season was a big bang with second-team All-Pac-12 honors, projecting him as a lottery selection for the NBA that year. Notwithstanding, Rabb decided to continue with college, thus, turning his back on the 2016 NBA draft, irrespective of his great potentials. He was named a preseason All-American by the Associated Press before the 2016–17 season.

Though he turned his back on the NBA after his freshman year, Ivan couldn’t do it the second time, he managed to finish his sophomore season and on March 22, 2017, he declared his intention to be a part of the NBA Draft of 2017. This meant that his final two years of collegiate eligibility was abruptly interrupted.

His NBA Career

During the 2017 NBA Draft, the American basketball player was selected as the 5th pick, 35th overall in the second round. He was first picked by the Orlando Magic but before he could get to flaunt his skills with the rest of the team, he got traded to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Subsequently, his first season in the big league was spent with the Grizzlies but not before he sealed a three-year rookie-scale pact with the side on September 18, 2017, with his first two seasons fully guaranteed. His debut with the team was filled with different assignments, carried out with the Memphis Hustle, Grizzlies’ G-League affiliate.

In addition to playing in the National Basketball Association (NBA), Ivan Rabb also lends his skills to the USA Basketball Men’s U16 National Team. He was a part of the team that posted a top-notch 5–0 record at the 2013 FIBA Americas U16 Championship which took place in Maldonado, Uruguay. Rabb started three games at the event, averaging 12.0 points and 9.8 rebounds. The team lifted the gold medal at the end of the tournament.
