Club Career 

In his early years, Ward-Prowse began playing for East Lodge at the age of six and joined the Southampton Academy at the age of eight. He later appeared in every match for the under-18 squad in the 2010–11 season before becoming a full-time scholar in 2011.

Ward-Prowse was initially called up to the Southampton first squad in October 2011, when he made his debut in the League Cup against Crystal Palace at the age of 16. Ward-Prowse, along with Jack Stephens, Luke Shaw, and Calum Chambers, was one of four young players granted professional contracts upon their return to the Premier League.

Ward-Prowse made his Premier League debut for Southampton on the first day of the 2012–13 season, appearing in the first 65 minutes of a 3–2 defeat against defending champions Manchester City. Manager Nigel Adkins praised his effort after the game, calling it “excellent.” Ward-Prowse signed a five-year deal with Southampton in November, shortly after his 18th birthday, amid expectations that he might depart the club soon.

Despite making 15 league appearances for his club throughout the season, many of them came as substitutes, and as a result, Ward-Prowse was described at the conclusion of the season as “not comfortable sitting on the bench.”

Ward-Prowse was an ever-present at the start of the 2014–15 season until he broke his foot in a victory against Swansea City on September 20. He was later ruled out for ten weeks.

From 2015 to present:

In January 2015, he agreed to a new five-and-a-half-year deal. On April 11, he scored his first Premier League goal, starting the scoring with a penalty shot in a 2–0 win over Hull City. On May 2, he was sent a straight red card for a tackle on Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe.

On October 3, 2015, Ward-Prowse came on as a half-time substitute for Oriol Romeu in a 3–1 victory over reigning champions Chelsea. This was his 100th appearance for Southampton, making him the fourth-youngest player to do so. Ward-Prowse scored his first goal of the 2016–17 season on September 25th, an injury-time shot that sealed a 3–0 away triumph over West Ham United.

On April 7, 2018, he made his 200th appearance for Southampton in all competitions.

Ward-Prowse made his 300th Southampton appearance on January 26, 2021, assisting Stuart Armstrong’s goal in a 3–1 home loss to Arsenal. After Southampton turned down a reported £25 million bid from Aston Villa for Ward-Prowse, he signed a new five-year deal on August 19, 2021. Ward-Prowse scored a free-kick goal in Southampton’s 3–1 loss to Wolves at Molineux Stadium on January 15, 2022.

In 2012, he advanced to the under-19 squad, where he played four times, and in 2013, he joined the under-20s for the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey, where he played all three matches, none of which England won.

On March 16, 2017, he received his first senior England call-up for a friendly against Germany and a World Cup qualifying match against Lithuania. In a 5–0 triumph against San Marino on March 25, 2021, he scored his first international goal. He was named to England’s 33-man preliminary squad for UEFA Euro 2020 on May 25, 2021, but did not make the final roster.
