England professional footballer, Jamie Vardy, will go down in history as being the ultimate late bloomer. The current Leicester City forward, within a five-year period, rose from working in a factory as a carbon fiber technician and playing non-league football, to becoming one of the hottest strikers in the glamorous Premier League.
With a run of scoring in eleven consecutive matches, Vardy helped fire his 5000/1 odd side to a championship ahead of heavyweights Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea, and has become a mainstay in the England national team as they hope to replicate his success with Leicester City on the international stage.
Biography
Jamie Vardy was born Jamie Richard Gill on the 11th of January, 1987 in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, to Lisa Vardy and Richard Gill. His father, Richard, was a crane worker while his mother, Lisa, was as an employee solicitor.
His family was a modest middle-class one that supported his dream of becoming a footballer, even at the expense of his education. Vardy joined his childhood club Sheffield Wednesday Academy at a young age and played for their youth setups until he was released at the age of 16 for being too small and skinny.
A heartbroken Vardy immediately chose to abandon football as he took up a low paying job at a factory. After a while on the job, he chose to go back to football, this time trying out at non-league teams like Wickersley Youth and Stockbridge Park Steels where he earned 30 pounds a week. Following a string of sterling performances, Football League teams started to reach out to him for trials.
Professional Football Career
In 2010, Vardy joined FC Halifax for a fee of 15,000 pounds. He immediately lit up the Northern Premier League, scoring 25 goals from 37 appearances to become the club’s top goalscorer and winning them the Premier Division title along the way. He was also voted the Player’s Player of the Season.
At the beginning of the following season, Vardy continued his meteoric rise by signing for Conference Premier club Fleetwood Town after scoring three goals in four matches for Halifax. He kept up his goalscoring form with his new side in the 2011-12 season as they challenged for top honors and promotion.
While doing so, Vardy was getting the attention of higher league teams, with one manager offering Fleetwood Town 750,000 pounds after a match against the side. Vardy went on to finish that season as the top goal scorer in the Conference Premier as his team won the title and a first-ever promotion to the Football League.
Leicester City Career
In the summer of May 2012, Championship club Leicester City paid a non-league record of 1 million pounds for Vardy’s services. For the first time in his career, Vardy experienced the lows of being out of form as he somewhat struggled to keep up his goal scoring. It was said that he contemplated leaving football after being heavily criticized by fans.
For the 2013-14 campaign, Jamie Vardy turned around his fortunes to make sure he was the club’s number 1 striker as his goals ensured Leicester City was crowned champion and promoted to the Premier League. He was named the Player’s Player of the Season.
Vardy carried on scoring in his first year in the top flight as Leicester City fought hard to ensure that they beat relegation. That precedent made what happened in the following season unbelievable as Leicester City was crowned Champions with Vardy playing a pivotal role in their achievements. In addition to scoring in eleven consecutive matches and winning back to back Premier League Player of the Month awards, Vardy was named the Football Writers Association Footballer of the Year and the 2016 Barclays Premier League Player of the Season. He was also one of four Leicester players to be named in the PFA Team of the Year.
Jamie Vardy has so far made 234 appearances for Leicester City, scoring 89 times along the way.
Does Jamie Vardy Have a Girlfriend, Wife (Rebekah Vardy)
Jamie Vardy is indeed a married man. He is married to Rebekah Vardy (nee Nicholson), a former nightclub promoter. The couple met in 2014 at one of her jobs before getting married in May 2016 at Peckforton Castle in Cheshire. He is at the moment a father to five children; two from his wife, one from a previous relationship, and two from his wife’s previous relationships.
Before getting married to her, Vardy fell out with his parents and grandparents over their disapproval of his bride to be.
