Biography

Jane McDonald was born on April 4, 1963, in England but spent her childhood and most parts of her adulthood in Wakefield England, UK. Her parents are Peter McDonald, a miner and Chimney sweeper and Jean McDonald, a homemaker and former singer. Jane had two siblings from her parents; Tony and Janet McDonald. While she was younger, Jane shared a special bond with her father which would see him nurture her music talent when it manifested a really young age.

At the start of her music career, Jane and her father would go on road trips to different clubs in Northern England where she would perform to resounding applause. With the much she made from the trips, Jane bought most of the equipments she needed but a majority of that was eventually damaged during a club fight where she went to perform.

Jane’s career went on a major high with her first round of entertaining on a cruise on the Black Prince ship. This was quickly followed by another trip on the Horizon, then the Zenith, Century and its sister ship the Galaxy. With each performance, her fame grew and word spread about her beautiful voice. During her time on the Galaxy ship, BBC was coincidentally filming a docusoap about the daily operations of the ship and after watching her entertain, the producer Chris Terell offered her a job as a presenter for the BBC show The Cruise, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Jane McDonald’s appearance on The Cruise in 1998 made her fame go global. Her natural flair for the dramatic saw her take the show a new height of over 14 million viewers on each episode which in turn made her well sought after. Her quick rising fame attracted the attention of Focus Music International to her cabaret kind of music and they signed her to a major recording contract. In July 1998, she released her debut self titled album Jane McDonald to critical success. It peaked at number 1 on the UK Album Chart and number 44 in New Zealand the following year. The album stayed at number 1 for three weeks consecutively.

Having done a good job on The Cruise, BBC made her presenter for the 1999 show Star for a Night and The National Lottery. The following year, she released her second album Inspiration in 2000, and her third album Love at the Movies in 2001. Jane released a fourth album You Belong to Me in 2005 and served as a judge on ITV’s Loose Women, along-side Carol Vorderman. With her fifth album titled Jane, she regained her good position on the UK charts. The album was among the top 10 on the charts and just as she did with her debut album, she began touring the UK.

She took a long break from music after her Jane Tour but returned in 2014 with her sixth album Singer of Your Song which saw her going on another tour. Jane McDonald did a compilation of all her evergreen songs and two years later, she went on the Memories Tour that ran into 2017, the same year she launched the album Hold the Covers Back. Her latest album is titled Cruising with Jane McDonald, released in 2018. Next, Jane met and fell in love with Henrik Brixen who she started dating in 1995. Their love culminated in a fairytale wedding which was aired live on BBC in 1998 for well over 14 million viewers to witness. Unfortunately, it seems the amount of fuss the wedding created and his wife’s subsequent life on set, gave Henrik the chills and he decided to end it all. Jane and Henrik got divorced in 2002 because Henrik did not want to be the reason why Jane could not pursue her career full time.

For seven years after Henrik, Jane refused to be involved in another relationship. Not until 2008 when she reunited with her teenage boyfriend and former drummer Walter Eddie Rothe. Jane and Eddie met back in 1980 and struck up a love affair which only lasted 6 months before it packed up. The two have been together since 2009 and are engaged but are not in a rush to get to the altar.
