A chip off the old block, Jaren Jackson Jr only made it to the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 2018 and is already packing on great prospects in the big league. The power forward/center has been praised for his mind-blowing blocking skills which earned him a lot of recognition from the right quarters.

For his intriguing performance in high school, the B-baller was named 5th best player in the nation by Scout.com, 1st in his position. Again, while 247 Sports ranked him 7th nationwide and 4th in his position, he was given the 8th spot in the ESPN 100, coming in at #2 in his position. With such remarkable record, much is expected from the American professional basketball player who was drafted 4th overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA Draft of 2018.

Jaren also helped the United States national basketball team to bring the gold home at the FIBA 2016 World Championships. Let’s get to know more about Jaren Jackson Jr, including details about his early life and other interesting facts about the pro basketballer.

Jaren Jackson Jr Bio

Named after his father, Jaren was born on September 15, 1999. While his mother’s (Terri Jackson) occupation is yet to be confirmed, his father is a veteran in the game. He played basketball in his heydays, making waves as a sharpshooting guard in the NBA during a career that lingered for more than a decade. Apparently, he passed on the talent to his son who began playing early in life.

In high school, Jaren Jackson Jr started off with the team at Park Tudor school and wrapped it up at La Lumiere School where his senior year was spent. At Park Tudor, he averaged 10 points per game, 6 rebounds, and 3 blocks. He also bagged two IHSAA state basketball championships before leaving for La Lumiere where he started for their varsity squad. When he was set to move on from high school, institutions like Michigan State, Notre Dame, Indiana, Purdue, Maryland, among many others lined up for him.

His rather short college career was eventually spent with the Michigan State Spartans. With the team, he debuted on November 10, 2017, recording 13 points and a season-high 13 rebounds. The feat was achieved in a blowout 98–66 victory over the North Florida Ospreys. He would follow it up with a record season-high (at the time) 19 points in an 88–81 loss to the Duke Blue Devils.

December 5 saw Jaren Jackson Jr record 11 points in addition to a career-high 8 blocks in a 62–52 win over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. He then bagged 17 points followed by career-high 13 rebounds in an 88–63 win over the Southern Utah Thunderbirds. Early 2018, he kept up with his record-setting streak with yet another season-high 21 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 blocks in an 87–74 win over Illinois Fighting Illini. The next month, he raised the bars again with a career-high 27 points in an 87–57 win over the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

Riding on the wave of his eventful season at Michigan State, Jaren Jackson Jr scooped the Big Ten’s Defensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year award. In addition to that, he was named in Big Ten’s All-Freshman Team and the All-Big Ten’s Third Team. Nevertheless, he decided sometime in April 2018 that college is no place for his skills and declared for the year’s NBA Draft.

During the 2018 NBA Draft, Jaren Jackson Jr made the cut with the 4th overall pick, he was selected by the Memphis Grizzlies and subsequently entered into a multi-year contract with the side.

His Family

Aside from his parents identified as Jaren and Terri Jackson, there is hardly any information available about his family background but what we do know is that the older Jaren seems to have passed on a legacy to his son as he is a former professional basketball coach and also played professionally in the NBA. There are no siblings in the picture but that doesn’t confirm that Jackson Jr is an only child.

Also, the young B-baller is not married yet but is working on laying a strong foundation for himself in the big league.
