Jarrett Allen is an American professional basketball center player associated with the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Jarrett completed his college career with the Texas Longhorns men’s basketball team of the University of Texas before he was drafted as the 22nd overall, in the first round of the 2017 NBA draft by the Nets.

While he was there, he was a pick and roll finisher with great potentials as he converted up to 68 percent of his attempts on the basket for the Longhorns. In addition to that, the fast-rising star is also a gold medalist with the United States U18 National team. Jarrett Allen’s Biography

Jarrett Allen was born in San Diego, California on April 21, 1998. He was born to Leonardo Allen Sr. and his wife Cheryl Allen. His parents are of African-American ethnic background; his father is serving as a manager at Dell and he is equally a former basketball player who played internationally in the Spanish Basketball League. He has an older brother named Leonardo Jr. who also played Division I basketball.

Growing up, Jarrett started playing basketball when he was in seventh grade; he went on to attend St. Stephen’s Episcopal School in Austin, Texas. There he kicked off his basketball career. During his high school career, Allen won two SPC championships with St. Stephen’s basketball team. He also played in the McDonald’s All-American Boys Game held in 2016. At the end of his high school career, Allen committed to the University of Texas.

Joining the Texas Longhorns basketball team in 2016, Allen averaged 8.4 rebounds and 13.4 points per game. Although the Longhorns experienced a disappointing season; Allen made a significant impact on the team. His best game was against the Kansas Jayhawks where he notched 19 rebounds and scored 22 points in the game. At the end of his freshman year in 2017, Allen was named to the Big-12 All American Rookie team as well as All-Conference Third team.

In the same year, Jarrett Allen was among the United States U18 team that participated in the 2016 FIBA Americas U18 Championship in Chile. He led the team to clinch the gold medal while averaging 9.0 rebounds and 10.6 points in the five games of the competition. Similarly, he led the United States Junior National Select team to triumph over the World Select Team at the 2016 Nike Hoop Summit. Following his remarkable performances, Allen was considered as a top prospect for NBA draft. He further decided to forgo the remaining three years of his college career so he could join the 2017 NBA draft.

NBA Career and Stats

Jarrett Allen was invited for the 2017 NBA scout combine drills, where the youngster made an impressive performance; thus placing himself among the top prospects for the 2017 draft. He was later selected by the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball League. Allen was the 22nd overall selection in the first round of the draft. He penned down his rookie contract with the Nets in July 2017.

Joining the team, the youngster made his first professional appearance for the Nets on October 20, 2017, at the age of 19. He became the second player behind Derrick Favors to make his professional debut for the Brooklyn Nets. At the end of the game, Allen had two rebounds, one block, and nine points. He made the starting squad in January 2018, he recorded his first career high of 12 rebounds and 16 points in their 116 – 108 win over the Philadelphia 76ers. Subsequently, he notched five rebounds, one block, and 20 points in their game against Los Angeles Lakers in February 2018.
