Miss Fame is the stage name for Kurtis Dam-Mikkelsen, who is a U.S model, drag queen, recording artist, and makeup artist. The superstar is also popular for appearing in season seven of the reality competition TV series RuPaul’s Drag Race. After appearing on the show as a contestant, Dam-Mikkelsen went ahead to launch her music career by releasing her first single titled “Rubber Doll” in April 2015, the debut album ‘Beauty Marked,’ followed two months, later on June 9, 2015.

In January 2018, the celebrity announced she’d be signing on to Wilhelmina Models- the news didn’t trigger much of a shift for her, rather it is a phase in her modeling career and rather than model with the name Dam-Mikkelsen, the erstwhile musician and reality show competitor chose to go by the name Miss Fame. Dam-Mikkelsen announced on Instagram in February 2018, that she won’t be touring or doing live performances anymore.

Bio of Miss Fame

Miss Fame was born on the 30th day of March 1985 in San Luis Obispo, California, as Kurtis Dam-Mikkelsen. She had a very humble background as she was raised on a farm by her grandparents. She is one of six children born to her parents, however, the names of her parents and siblings are not known.

Kurtis attended Templeton High school where she graduated from in 2003. After high school, She attended a beauty school, after which she worked at a salon before relocating to Sacramento in 2008 and worked as a male editorial model. Se never thought of becoming a model until she agreed to pose in a friend’s portrait series. In 2011 she moved to New York after fashion photographer Mike Ruiz advised him to do so.

In New York, Kurtis Dam-Mikkelsen began working as a makeup artist and doing minor modeling jobs at the same time. As a makeup artist, she has worked on top celebrities and models like , Ève Salvail, Martha Wash, Michael Urie, JWoww, Snooki, and Marc Jacobs, who introduced him as her niece to the likes of Naomi Campbell and Lil’ Kim, who wanted Fame to do their makeup.

She said she originally wanted to be an established male model, but when it became obvious that agents and agencies weren’t so much interested in a thin, tattooed guy with a mohawk dressed in black most of the time, she decided to create a brand for himself a drag persona: Miss Fame.

Dam-Mikkelsen soon got noticed by English photographer Mary McCartney who featured him in her book “Devoted.” She also got featured on a photo series by series Leland Bobbé –  Half-Drag, which garnered international attention. Miss Fame soon got featured on Vogue Italia and on for Gorgeous, alongside Tammie Brown, Candis Cayne, and Armen Ra.

In 2014, Miss Fame entered for the season seven of the reality competition TV series RuPaul’s Drag Race and became the first drag queen to appear on the show. She was evicted in the 9th episode and emerged 7th overall. After her elimination from the show, Dam-Mikkelsen went ahead to launch her music career by releasing her first single titled Rubber Doll in April 2015, two months later, she launched her debut album Beauty Marked, which featured two of her fellow Drag Race contestants Violet Chachk and Alaska Thunderfuck.

She signed on with IMG models Paris in 2016. In 2017, Miss Fame contributed to the compilation album Christmas Queens 3.

Her Early Life as a Boy

Miss Fame grew up on a chicken farm with her Mexican grandmother and Danish grandfather. Growing up with her grandparents, Dam-Mikkelsen says anything that showed any flash of flamboyance was discouraged.

She currently identifies as gender fluid but that has not always been the case as she struggled to come to terms with her identity. With a limited queer community around her, it was not until she was older that she was able to truly grasp her identity, which according to her has completely resurrected her soul as she came to discover that he can actually push the boundaries of her body, and at the same time, push the boundaries of the way she presents herself as she has the soul and spirit of a woman and at the same time still be the man that sits on the couch with her husband.

To crown it all, Fame says her family accepts her just the way she is even though they didn’t know at first how to deal with what she was.

Who is Her Husband?

Miss Fame has been married to Patrick Berschy, since 2013. The couple recently relocated to a new home in Brooklyn, with their two Dachshunds pet dogs – Mina and Shaya. According to Dam-Mikkelsen, they wanted a home with more floor space and more parks nearby for Mina and Shaya, as well as an environment that is a little more still.
