Jason Mraz is a multi-Grammy-winning American singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He attained initial fame in the early 2000s as a regular performer at a San Diego coffee shop and has gone on to achieve immense commercial and critical success in his long-running music career which boasts of several chart-topping singles and albums.

Mraz has received a number of well-deserved accolades including 2 Grammies, 2 Teen Choice Awards, 1 People’s Choice Award and the 2009 Hal David Songwriters Hall of Fame Award.

Jason Marz Age and Early Life

Jason Thomas Mraz was born on June 23, 1977, in Mechanicsville, Virginia. His father Tom (Tomáš) Mraz and his mother June got divorced when he was still very young. He had his high school education at Lee-Davis High School where he was a cheerleader and a member of the school choir. Upon graduation, he spent a year and a half studying at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City.

For his college education, Jason Mraz enrolled at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia. However, he embarked on a road trip to San Diego and he never returned to college. After settling in San Diego in 1999, Jason Mraz joined a band known as “Elgin Park”. He was also booked as a regular performer at a coffee house “Java Joe’s” which helped him build a loyal fan base and culminated in the release of his album Live at Java Joe’s (2001).

In 2002, Mraz signed on to Elektra Records which was followed by the release of his debut studio album Waiting for My Rocket to Come. The album’s lead single “The Remedy (I Won’t Worry)” peaked at No. 3 of the Billboard Hot 100 becoming his first top-10 song. In 2005, he released a second studio album Mr. A–Z for which he received a Grammy nomination for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. 

Jason opened for the British rock band ‘The Rolling Stones’ during their 2005–06 world tour. His 3rd studio effort We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things (2008) entered the Billboard 200 chart at number 3. The album earned him a 2009 Grammy nomination for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. The album’s lead single “I’m Yours” was also nominated for the Song of the Year and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance at the 2009 Grammy Awards. In 2010, Jason Mraz received 2 Grammy awards for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance (“Make It Mine”) and Best Pop Collaboration (“Lucky” featuring Colbie Caillat).

In 2012, the Grammy-winning singer put out his 4th studio album Love Is a Four Letter Word which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. He again received a Grammy nomination for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. Jason Mraz collaborated with indie-rock-folk band Raining Jane on his 5th studio album Yes! which was released in July 2015. The album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart, however, its commercial success cannot be compared to Mraz’s previous efforts.

Jason Mraz is married to Christina (Tina) Carano. The couple met back in 2007 through a mutual friend. However, their relationship officially took off in 2011. After dating for 4 years, the duo eventually tied the knot on October 25, 2015, in a private ceremony held at the singer’s hometown of Mechanicsville, Virginia.

Carano previously owned a coffee shop located in Hermosa Beach, California. She now collaborates with her husband on their avocado farm venture.

Prior to his current marriage, Jason Mraz was previously married to an actress named Sheridan Edley. Their relationship dates back to the early days of the singer’s career before he got really famous. It’s been reported that the duo got married on New Year’s eve of 2001. However, their marriage broke off before the end of 2001.
